Any Home Bakers Here?

It's hatching time and building a new coop. Not much time for baking right now. I am taking some time to make some onion bagels.

Do any of you guys can? Wondering if I could make and can this in individual serving size jars rather than freezing it. I would only be able to water bath can.

I do can, some with water bath and pressure canning.

Water bath is safe for acid foods, but that recipe has a lot of ph neutrals and IMO may not be safe in water bath?

is anyone still baking?
It's spring! Still baking a little, but nothing special. Getting the garden going, working and just enjoying the weather for now.

That looks so yummy!
I'm sure others will put in their suggestions, I'm really strict when it comes to canning, so I wouldn't can it unless you can process it in a pressure canner. In my opinion, a water bath is just not hot enough to kill the bacteria etc. I looked through my canning books and all the recipes/instructions for any bean/vegetable soups/mixtures call for pressure canner. Pints 1hr 15min and quarts 1hr 30min.
Freezing looks like your best option. If you can get freezer jars they are wonderful. A little more cost up front, but can be used for canning/freezing and work really great for me.

I have been getting on here and there just trying to read and catch up, but it's just not happening. I just am doing fun stuff like helping my son with homework and my husband has been working everyday, so not much downtime and when I do have down time, I forget to get on

. I also haven't been doing much baking. It looks like rain tomorrow, so I'm going to try and get myself to make some bread with the daycare.

After a year of taking classes and getting all the requirements done (we took a long time), our first foster child has moved in. This will be my first time making bread with him, so that will be awesome. My daycare kids are always thrilled when we make bread. I'm sure he will like it too.

I am going to try and look back at more of the baking posts to see what you all have been making. I have been looking, just not commenting because I'm just so far behind. I hope everyone is doing well!

@Alice28 Hi. I'm really quite busy with work changes right now and only a little time to pop in and see what's going on.

Looks like not a lot of baking - but for me colder months are when I do most of mine.

Good luck with the bread baking.

Forgot, this isn't baking related, but I have a girl that sort of sprained her foot (jumping off the roost I suspect). I put in her "jail" in the run (dog kennel) so she stays a bit less active. Everybody else mills around her and talks to her. She sits in jail and watches everyone - she wants out. I usually put her in, in the morning then let her out to lay her egg, then afternoon she goes back in for a couple of hours (I think she will be paroled in a day or two). Anyway...I let her out, now all the other 6 are inside her jail

they can't wait for her to get out just in case she spilled some crumbles or forgot a piece of sunflower seed. Its hilarious to see a large BO cockerel and 5 hens crammed into a kennel scratching to their hearts content
