Any Home Bakers Here?

I am a home baker! I own a bread business. I saved up $1,200 to get started with chickens and I finally got my chickens the beginning of this year! My specialty is yeast breads.

CuzChickens, glad you joined the thread.

Those cinnamon rolls look awesome - they are my personal favorite.

Do you bake for the business at home or have a store front?

Congrats on getting your own flock - I never knew how much better baked goods were with really fresh eggs til I got my own flock.

Somebody shared a recipe for canned Beetroot last year and I cannot find the darn thing. Remember it had cider vinegar in it but that's all. For some reason I think it was on here not the canning thread. Does that ring any bells for anyone?

I usually just use cider vinegar, but you can ferment them too... My go to recipe that the kids gobble up taste a lot like the canned ones from the store, but a little zippier ;)

Courtesy of the Blue Ball canning book lol, I've never had to use another one, since these are pretty delicious :)

• 3 quarts beets (double recipe if you have more)
• 2 C sugar
• 2 sticks cinnamon
• 1 Tblsp whole allspice
• 1 1/2 tsp salt
• 3 1/2 cups vinegar (use cider vinegar)
• 1 1/2 C water

I add 2 large white onions, sliced thin; and 1 tbsp of whole clove, too ;)

And to process...

1.Wash beets, cook beets, peel and quarter beets.
2.Combine everything except beets in large sauce pot.
3.Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
4.Remove cinnamon sticks.
5.Pack beets into hot jars leaving 1/4″ headspace.
6.Ladle hot liquid over beets leaving 1/4″ headspace.
7.Remove air bubbles, then add lids and bands.
8.Process for 30 minutes in a hot water bath canner.

Disregard previous post. After much searching through my posts I found it!

I used malt vinegar instead and it tasted just like the bought one we like. Now I just need to buy some smaller jars and then it's Beetroot harvest time :)

Glad you found what you needed.

Personally I never liked canned beets - but love fresh baked ones. We haven't grown them for a couple of years, your posts made me think about planting some in my Fall garden

But just wondering - what else can you do with fresh beets other than canning or baking

I peal and then steam beets. Our local store sells them regularly now.
