I will try to take pics of the process. I picked green today. I want to try to do some black as well.
What size jar is best? Would a quart jar be big enough? I did a little research on sourdough over the weekend, and feel a LITTLE less intimidated about trying it. It would still probably benefit me to read a little more on the subject before trying though. Don't want to mess it up!The jar you use needs to be able to let air out but not in. I have had lidded jars explode. If using a jar, then use plastic wrap with a rubber band around the top.
The spring jar has been the best for me to use and you can find them in second hand stores. The seals will wear out over time but they are often in with the canning supplies, usually a couple per package. The seals are fairly standard in size
Storage in metal is not a good idea because of the above. Stainless steel for baking is fine.
I would not use aluminium though.
A quart jar works. You need to be able to keep 2 cups with room for expansion as you feed the starter. It likes to rise in the jar. What size jar is best? Would a quart jar be big enough? Once you get a start going, it becomes second nater to take care of them. It is not very hard and it is very hard to kill one. I have heard more about family members tossing the starter because it can look off when the jar gets dirty. I keep dried starter as a backup
Starting to cure...I think we will be canning for days...lol!
