Any Home Bakers Here?

Our county fair doesn't TASTE anything. I stopped entering that one. We are allowed to enter any county fair in a county that touches OUR county, since we are in the boonies. You can't win best in category (1st yes, but not best in category, if you are out of category.)

I have no entries this year, but last year I did the county to the west of us. They opened and tasted EVERYTHING! I got dinged for NOT using clove in my apple butter. (allergies)
BUT the czechs in that country add it to their applebutter and expect it. So out of 9 blue ribbons last year, the apple butter brought home a 2nd. HUMPF. Oh well. I can for me, not others.

My garden JUST started to produce this past two weeks, so I don't have anything to can. Hail took all the apples in our 40 tree orchard, so that's that, for this year. I'm not bothering to enter just for the baked goods. By the time they're judged, they're soggy or stale.

The only thing I like cloves in is pumpkin pie. That’s a lot of blue ribbons, nice! I hope mine didn’t get yucky due to the humidity. Sorry to hear about your orchard and garden.
