Any Home Bakers Here?

I made a pot roast for dinner last night. Usually I put the browned meat & vegetables in the crock pot along with beef broth. Last night I put the browned meat in a Dutch oven and used a bottle of Guinness in place of the broth. I don't think the meat was as tender as what I get from a crock pot, but sure did like how the Guinness tasted as the broth (not at all alcoholic in case anyone wonders).

Next time I'll use the Guinness but do it all in the crock pot.

P.S. Last winter I used Guinness in the Dublin Coddle and still had a couple bottles left. Had to find something to use it for as we weren't going to drink it.

Yes, or moldy. I was reading about it a bit and the tea towel was the most suggested. Or a paper bag. Anything beyond a few days should be frozen I guess.

I know crusty bread can be stored cut side down on a cutting board, at least that's how we've always done it.

I'm going to bake 4 loaves of bread for sandwiches this weekend so I'll give the tea towel a try. Thank you!
I baked three loaves of bread on Sunday. They were sliced after cooling completely, the heals cut up to dry over night for stuffing. The sliced bread went into a freezer bag and then into the freezer. When I want a slice or two of bread, I will open the bag and pop the slices off. If they are a bit stuck, I will use a butter knife to separate them.

If I am making toast, the frozen bread goes straight into the toaster. For a sandwich, I put the two slices on a plate or paper towel and go 20 seconds in the microwave. If still frozen, I turn them over and go another 10 or 15 seconds.

The slices thaw quickly on the counter though. Cover them with a square of paper towel or a tea towel.

The bread is never soggy and pre slicing is better for the family. they will not slice the bread on their own for some reason so taking a whole loaf out causes waste as the bread spoils

Thanks Ron. I was thinking about doing it this way too!
