I made a pot roast for dinner last night. Usually I put the browned meat & vegetables in the crock pot along with beef broth. Last night I put the browned meat in a Dutch oven and used a bottle of Guinness in place of the broth. I don't think the meat was as tender as what I get from a crock pot, but sure did like how the Guinness tasted as the broth (not at all alcoholic in case anyone wonders).
Next time I'll use the Guinness but do it all in the crock pot.
P.S. Last winter I used Guinness in the Dublin Coddle and still had a couple bottles left. Had to find something to use it for as we weren't going to drink it.
