Any Home Bakers Here?

The ready or started part is fine. The ability to raise bread without adding commercial yeast will be longer though.

The fastest way to get starter that is active is to get some from someone like me or penny! That will be ready in days

Well according to the googs it’s in smaller pieces, and looking thru the jar I can see that that’s true, it apparently doesn’t need to be proofed either, which also makes sense as I usually mix my regular yeast directly into the dry stuff. But can I proof it anyway? Perhaps I’ll do an experiment and let you guys know!

I’m also planning to start a sourdough “just in case of apocalypse “ lol, even though I don’t much like sourdough bread! Dh doesn’t either, but he used to bake a lot and had a starter for 10+years
I have a batch of starter going into the drying for storage stage.

Send me a message with a shipping address and I will mail a start to you

Today I'm gonna try this::

:droolMy grandma made the best corned beef & cabbage. It was very colorful too. Pink meat, still slightly green cabbage, big hunks of potato & vibrant orange carrots. I don’t know how she did it. I’m assuming she steamed it or used the crock pot.

I am a little embarrassed to admit that I bought about 75 pounds of organic white flour I found on sale hoping to get me through a couple of years... pre-apocalyptic Coronavirus craziness.
I had to buy a large container to store some of it in... now just waiting for a good excuse to start using it!
But I wanted to see what you guys are stocking up on to get through this: who knows what is going on?

If I lived closer, I'd help you eat it. Sounds good to me! :drool
I would share 😁
Welcome, it's always nice to have another baker here!

I just use regular yeast for pizza dough. Not sure how pizza yeast is different?
I’ve used both and couldn’t tell the differenc
Dinner tonight is pot roast cooked in the crock pot. Dessert is individual brownies! Can't wait for dinner!

If you can, freeze as much of the flour as you can. It will go stale and there is a huge chance that bugs will get into the flour. Even in an airtight container, the moths will lay eggs at the edge of the seal and fall in when you open the lid.

They will not get out after pupating, but will still ruin the flour

I have enough stock of stuff all the time to get through a month or so. I do need to get some beans but I could live off of my home made bread and rice for quite some time.
