I have a "Watkin's Cookbook" from the early 1940s and the recipe is it. I have been making this recipe since I was old enough to cook.

I just get a bowl of hot water and stand another bowl on top and melt butter or chocolate that way.
I have a 1, 2 &4 cup pyrex love them too. They seem like the old ones. They say 100th anniversary on them.
The glass was made differently in the old ones. They hold up much better than the new ones. I had a newer one that I only used to heat water in the microwave. Didn't even heat the water to a boil. One day the stupid thing broke into pieces while I was heating water! Glad it was only water, but was a bit freaked about spilled water inside the microwave. Has made me leery of them ever since. I've replaced my newer ones with thrift store buys hoping they are older.agree and the old ones seem indestructible!
It’s true! They changed the recipe for the glass. I try to find old ones at thrift stores.agree and the old ones seem indestructible!
Haha! Yes me too! I should have read the thread before posting. I had a new 9x13 pan break in the oven with a load of lasagna. The glass was made differently in the old ones. I had one do that back in the mid 90s and it was the old style. I was baking a chicken and the chicken fat caught on fire!Haha! Yes me too! I should have read the thread before posting. I had a new 9x13 pan break in the oven with a load of lasagna.
Always, always, profit margin. Well and sometimes environmental regs prevent the use of some things. The glass in the baking pans is different now too and they do not hold up as well.
I do not know why pyrex did that!
