How did I ever make this far in life and not know about potato candy. :idunno

I have a "Watkin's Cookbook" from the early 1940s and the recipe is it. I have been making this recipe since I was old enough to cook.

I have a 1, 2 &4 cup pyrex love them too. They seem like the old ones. They say 100th anniversary on them.

I have those old 3 sizes of pyrex cups also. Love them!

When I cooked at the golf course restaurant we only had a newer style 2 cup one and the pouring lip was so shallow, it was almost impossible to be neat about using it.

agree and the old ones seem indestructible!
The glass was made differently in the old ones. They hold up much better than the new ones. I had a newer one that I only used to heat water in the microwave. Didn't even heat the water to a boil. One day the stupid thing broke into pieces while I was heating water! Glad it was only water, but was a bit freaked about spilled water inside the microwave. Has made me leery of them ever since. I've replaced my newer ones with thrift store buys hoping they are older.

Haha! Yes me too! I should have read the thread before posting. I had a new 9x13 pan break in the oven with a load of lasagna.

I had one do that back in the mid 90s and it was the old style. I was baking a chicken and the chicken fat caught on fire!

(gas oven)

The glass in the baking pans is different now too and they do not hold up as well.

I do not know why pyrex did that!
Always, always, profit margin. Well and sometimes environmental regs prevent the use of some things.

I think all of my 13x9’s are from 10-15 years ago. The cup is from at least twenty years ago. I will now be afraid of my Pyrex. :hide
