Dang, just found a cracked egg. It looks like it could have been pecked, or (I'm hoping) just stepped on. It has a hole, but the membrane is still intact, so nobody got a taste. Whew.

If only this had been an hour and a half ago, I could have used it in my loaf of bread. Now I have to have it for lunch. Darn...

It is normal hen behavior to peck the egg to test for hatchability. If the egg cracks, it is usually a sign that the egg shell is weak.

Egg eating is not something that is a learned behavior. The best thing to do is to figure out why the egg shell is weak.

Nutrition and parasites' are the most common causes

I have never heard this before! Learned something new. I'm going to sprinkle some small bits of OS on the melon guts I'm giving them for their snack. They don't seem to like OS much, but munch plenty of egg shell.

For some reason I didn’t get a notification that people have been posting. Odd. I fixed it.

Anyway, this normally runs $2000 to $4000. I found it on craigslist for $200. Got it because my old organ went bust.

Talk about a bargain!
