Any Home Bakers Here?

2 things.

First, I have 2 friends from Japan coming to stay for the summer. I will try to get some authentic Japanese recipes from them. They get here tonight.

Second, I took this photo with a telescope and an astronomy app last night. It’s the Ring Nebula.

I have a question I know someone here can answer.

I have a lovely oregano plant that is growing very well. How do I use fresh oregano in a recipe? I use a scant teaspoon of dried oregano when I make spaghetti sauce. How much fresh would I use instead? Just leaves, or can I use the stem parts too?
The ratio is three to one for dried versus fresh in a recipe.

Add fresh herbs closer to the end of cooking.

If the recipe calls for a teaspoon of dry, then use a tablespoon of fresh.

You can dry the herbs for use in the winter too.

Here Oregano is a perennial that does well in the winter outside. I have two large bushes of oregano.

Wow, Jared! Thanks for sharing! Enjiy your guests. And be sure to share American food too. They've been eating Japenese their whole lives! 😉

Cool photo Jared.
Do your friends speak English? Do you speak Japanese? Do they have plans other than just hanging out?

It is here too and you know our winters are a LOT harsher than yours. I guess oregano is one tough plant.

I love it!

I have had oregano growing outside at three places since 1985.
