Any Home Bakers Here?

That is something I look forward to TRY TO DO. The
Doctor told me I was doing too much to slow down.
Not good for my healing broken hip and leg. Aria
You do want to heal properly Aria!!

Quite a difference though from a few months ago when you couldn't do a darned thing. :)

Good afternoon bakers

Guess who couldn't find their way back in here again yesterday and I so wanted to share my cooking news.

A wonderful local farmer gave me a hock. I've never cooked or eaten this before. It wasn't salted in any way and it is absolutely delicious.

I tried making some bread on Saturday. Sad to say that my yeast that has been in the fridge for 6 years has finally gotten too old to work. There was a rise on the bread, but it is pretty heavy and dense. Still good enough for us to eat over 1/2 a loaf as a snack, lol. Made some pretty good french toast this morning too.
I didn't realize until last night that I haven't made a loaf of bread in over a year.
DH made a comment a snide comment about my homemade bread making him fat and I needed to stop making it, so I did. We are huge bread eaters, so it is quite remarkable to me to have eaten store-bought bread for over a year.

I will need to stop at the store and pick up some fresh yeast and give it another go. I want to make a multi-grain style bread to use as toast for breakfast. Maybe making some Granola tonight.

If y’all insist….

(Nut allergy warning) (Preheat your oven to 350 degrees) (This is for a double of the recipe) In an appropriate mixing bowl, I take two bags of ordinary Chiquita Banana bread mix, two eggs from our own hens, 2/3rds cup of water, four way over ripe bananas (due to putting my baking off a few days), but six if you have that many, and if you like the extra banana flavor, then mix in an your choice amount of walnuts!

(Our oven gets really hot) Once you have all your ingredients in the bowl, mix the batter until there is little to no sign of powder. With a regular tablespoon (what you eat with) pour the batter into the donut tray, but don’t let the batter cover the middle piece. Let your soon to be banana donuts bake for 25 minutes, checking them often.

Before your 25 minutes is up, and if the donuts look touchable, take a chopstick if you have one, and gently stick it into the donut. If the chopstick comes out clean, they are either done or almost there. (An alternate way is to gently but firmly press the donut on the top, and if it bounces back, much like a sponge, you are good to go.)

Once you have taken your donuts out of the oven, (using proper caution and preferably oven mits or a good towel in each hand), place the tray on a heat safe surface. while they’re hot, use a butter knife and rub butter on the top of the donuts and then let them continue to cool.

And voilà, you have Banana donuts!
Thanks for the Recipe!

It is good to see you baking bread again!

It is so much better than store bought for sure.

Heh funny felt like making bavka too yesterday (thought of making it either chocolate or guava) ended up making a guava pie instead, made the jam with our honey and it was great 😋 oh yeah also made a "Nata" loaf (we call nata the cream/film that forms on raw milk after you boil it), it was sweet.
Oh My!
