Not sure that there is one pie crust that can do it all.

I use the pie crust recipe out of my Betty Crocker Cookbook, with one or 2 changes. I use half shortening and half butter. I find that shortening makes a flaky crust, but not a tasty crust. Butter makes a tasty crust, but it is a tougher crust. So, I do 1/2 and 1/2 and it works for us. I also wrap in cling wrap and refrigerate for one hour or so - that makes the butter go solid and it holds its shape better when I roll it and try to move it into the pie plate.
Oh, if you don't have one of those plastic bags for rolling out dough in, use sheets of waxed paper. You will need to pull off the waxed paper and get rid of wrinkles as you roll it, but it makes it easy to roll it a little thinner and still be able to move it to the pan. If you find that it is sticking to the waxed paper too badly, sprinkle a little flour on the dough before putting the waxed paper on it.

Two-Crust Pie
  • 1/3 cup Shortening
  • 1/3 cup Butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 to 5 Tablespoons cold water
Cut shortening into flour and salt until particle are size of small peas. Sprinkle in water 1 tablespoon at a time tossing with a fork until flour is moistened and pastry almost cleans side of bowl.

Dump dough onto cling wrap and gather into a ball, wrap tight and place in refrigerator for 1 hour up to 6 hours.

Divide dough in half and roll out on floured surface.

I just glanced at the ingredients,,, and know I will like it:drool:drool:drool:drool:drool:drool:drool:drool:drool
Jared,, How long does the crockpot run for,,,??? and at what temp setting. ??
I have older style crock pots, so its not digital. Goes from warm, to low to medium to high.

Unfortunately, that part of the recipe was lost. Let me do some research, and I’ll get back to you.

@ronott1 here is an amendment to the taco soup crockpot recipe I posted back in 2018.

Fry hamburger and onion together until done.

Add all items to the crockpot except for garnish. Set to low or high, depending on when you want to eat it and when you put it in the crockpot.

Add garnish and serve.

@cavemanrich these are the instructions for the cursed soup.

Thanks Jared!

I will work on getting the 2018 post updated. Project managers can edit articles but not forum posts.

In our experience the Betty Crocker recipes seem to be reliable.

Success!

Actual Grenadine syrup does a lot better than what I was previously using!

I made yogurt today. I think I'll make DH a loaf of Betsy bread tomorrow. And me a loaf of GF bread sometime soon.

I dug a few hills of potatoes Tuesday, and made air fryer potatoes for dinner. It was our first taste of purple taters, and they were delicious. I also air fried some green beans. Those were tasty too. It's about the only way DH will eat green beans. Until we tried them that way, he didn't think of them as food. Silly man. Love him anyway.
