Any Home Bakers Here?

Baking is limited here we get hot during the day to us.
80's drop back into the 70's next week.
Southern Hemisphere? We are scheduled to get a record breaking snowstorm this weekend, Im expecting to be cold enough to want the excuse to turn the oven on lol.

Bought a Zourdough (not a typo - they sell starters) starter and started the activation process a couple days ago. I've made starters from scratch, but I'm lazy this summer. :lau

If I remember to take a picture when it's ready to use I'll post it.
I just used a gifted "Alaskan Sourdough" starter this week for the first time, it turned out pretty good!

I see type 00 on Amazon but I've yet to see anything suitable for a genuine hardy European bread (which I've heard is remarkable).
Hubby went to England from America last summer and came back raving about the bread he had, I have been trying to find the right recipe since. I have gotten pretty close with a long ferment high hydration dough made with half All purpose and half stone ground wheat. But then my stone ground ran out, and the common whole wheat just doesn't seem to be able to.

That post was from back in July of 2025. She is in the northern hemisphere.

We're looking at about a half inch of ice.

I'm thinking about baking bread tomorrow, before weather arrives on Saturday afternoon.

Today I browned some ancient ground beef (freezer label said June 2022), added onions, added a can of mushrooms, and a couple splashes of soy sauce. I spooned it over a toasted English muffin for my lunch and found it good. There was no "old" taste at all!

Baked the cakes (they are boxed, so meh)
Baked the cookies (they are pillsbury, meh)
Still one batch to bake.
I had to clean and run errands today, so I’m behind schedule.
Made the three gallons of tea.
Still yet to make chili and cornbread.
It will be made with beef and sausage, b/c I forgot to thaw out the deer meat.
Y’all stay safe this weekend.
