Any ideas on hauling heritage turkeys? includes lots of TURKEY PICS!

Back to the truck bed idea. I know this may seem a little rough on the birds and I guess it depeds on how far ou need to travel. Could you use a cargo net? With a small enough weave it would hold them in but alow to breath. How about a horse trailer or an enclosed trailer?

I can just see it though. Their little heads popping through the net while driving down the road. It would sure be a site. :|

I hauled my 7 - 9 week old Cornish crosses about 1/2 the size? in 2 med size dog crates , packaged weight was between 4.75 and 7.75#
I had 3 cockerels in one crate and 1 cockerel, 3 pullets in the other.
they rode really easy in the 2 crates. My 60# dogs use those size crates when they are 3 month old puppies and weigh 12-15#. How big of a container to you really need for them to go on a drive?

Hmmm... maybe I could use the cargo net just to shorten the truck bed to keep them compact. I think their little heads would get too cold flying down the road in all that wind!

Nice try Marlinchaser.
Actually I was pre-paid for the Thanksgiving birds so they're all expected to show up on the holiday table!

I don't think I could fit more than 2 or 3 max in a dog crate (I still need to be able to lift it!).

I'm thinking about a tarp covering the truck bed, but with somekind of separations inside -- kind of like a six-pack of beer that comes with the little cardboard grid-separator thingie inside.
Just can't figure out how/what to make it out of... maybe haybales?

Cant fault me for trying.

So you think your customers would wonder how thier bird weighed in at 26LBs? I only had one that big.

Maybe in the spring I could come get a couple one pounders, and feed them till thanksgiving myself

Back to the original post, if you already have the boxed, I would put a couple in each, the problem with them trampleing is when they can all get bunched up together.

Can you fit a 26-pounder in your oven???

I'm kind of liking your hay bale divider in the truck bed idea. If you separate them up into 4 groups of 5 I don't think piling up would be likely. You're going to have to be on the ready when you pull the tarp back when you arrive though. lol

Oh yeah. Beautiful birds you raised there. Really nice!
