Any ideas on hauling heritage turkeys? includes lots of TURKEY PICS!

I like the netting on the top ideal, maybe you could build a frame out of 2x2 that is the size of the bed....and then strap that down. Don't know if it will work....just brainstorming

I can arrange haybales, but my carpentry skills are nil (those of you who've voted me "best coop made of bits of junk" know this!).

How do the rest of you turkey folks do this?

See if you can locate some old pallets...and just zip tye them together into individual crates.....or something along those lines.
You should be able to get pallets for free at any big time store like Sam's Club or Wegmans.

Hens are more valuable as breeders because they can reproduce, lay eggs, etc. You only need 1 tom for many females. But yes, for meat, the males are better cuz they're bigger.

Yes, I use one of those GE roaster ovens, so that the regular oven is available for rolls, pies, ham, etc.....

I prefer 20-22 or smaller, but the processer was closed the week I planned to take that bird, and he went from 28 to 34 lbs in the extra week.

We process our own. DH and DS did one today It was a bronze from Ideal it dressed out at 31 pounds. Hope the others arent that large. We plan on keeping a few of the females and just doing the males this time. I want to cut one up for turkey cutlets and such so I really don't care what his weight is. We have a topper on our truck but I think the dog crate is a good idea. When DH transports goats he does it in large dog crates.

this sounds great.... I def think I want to do one next year.. the only down side is that most of the posts that I have read say that turkeys are really nice and friendly.. that would just break my heart.. we do have wild turkeys around here that can be hunted.. wouldnt get really attached to the wild ones.
