Any Of You Ever lived In A Haunted House?

May I change the subject just a teeny bit and ask what kind of viking metal you listen to?

I promise it will go right back to ghost stories!
My husband LOVES metal and is into european bands. He is Danish as well and I know he'd be interested.

I wanted to know also.

Sounds like astral projection to me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astral_projection

Oh, how weird, thanks for that link! I never associated the dreams with out of body experiences before. They always used to just scare me so much that I'd develop insomnia to try and avoid them from happening. I'd stay awake until 3 or 4 in the morning until I dropped off, and then the dreams wouldn't come.

I have to admit though, after considering it, that similar feelings happen often in the mornings when my husband gets out of bed early to go to work. Its like the potential is there, but it doesn't fully happen. Mostly I remain in a half-sleep state for a couple hours till its time to get up, but I have very strong dreams even though I'm not fully asleep.
Coincidentally, I stopped having the dreams when I moved in with my husband about 7 years ago, and the only inklings that they could still happen are when he leaves in the morning and I'm in bed by myself. Also, I avoid taking naps because that's the best chance of one of those dreams happening. Weird. I haven't thought about it in a while but its all coming back to me! I used to have issues going to sleep until I moved in with my hubbie. I guess I don't like to sleep alone!

Okay, here is a story from my house of things moving. Like I said before, I used to get mad at the ghost for annoying me.

The house was small with one bathroom. The bathroom door came open. I knew that there was no reason for it to do so. So I shut the door and made certain that it clicked shut. I then dared the whatever it was to open it again.

In my defense, I really was trying to find a logical explanation. I thought if the door doesn't open then its not a ghost. I did not want to believe in ghost

The door opened.

My younger son looked at me horrified.

I continued to shut the door again and again, leaning against it, making certain that it had clicked shut and daring with more and more anger for the ghost to open the door.

The door kept opening.

You have to understand that the knob did not turn. It just came open

So, I locked the door and dared the ghost again to open the door.

Nothing happened. I thought. Yeah. There are no such things as ghost. My logical, rational side is still intact.

Well, the door wouldn't click shut after that. The knob was broken.

My guess is that the ghost was messing with the inner workings of the knob instead of turning it. When I locked it, it just got annoyed and broke the inside.

At least, that is my guess as to what happened.

Raroo, have you ever had a dream where it's like you're being held down in your bed & you're trying to scream and nothing comes out & it's so vivid you'd swear it was real when you woke up with your heart pounding?

Here's a ghost story for you: when my father about 6 and was growing up in GA him and his parents lived in a little house that was pretty old. My father said that he can't tell you how many times his parents went running downsairs because they heard what sounded like a baby or very small child crying. He had a brother that was a few yrs older than him, so there wasn't a baby or small child in the house. Oddly, the crying sounded like it was coming from the fireplace in the living room. His parents started asking neighbors about the history of the house. Come to find out, many years ago the family that lived there were sleeping downstairs in the livingroom while the fireplace was going to stay warm. During the night one of their youngest children woke up and was mesmerized by the flames in the fireplace and crawled into the fireplace and died.

Wooo, deb1, you are a brave one. If I lived in a house that was haunted, I think I'd try it too, just to see what would happen. But not if I were alone!!! Bring the boys from Supernatural as backup

Here is another story.

We have a beagle named Buster. Behind us there was a farmer who let his dogs roam. Now I don't like roaming dogs but sometimes late at night I would let him out. He would play with the farmer dogs but stay on my property or occasionally wander to the farm behind us(the old farmer didn't mind)

When he wanted back in, my smart doggie would scratch at our picture window where I was watching tv.

One day I heard him scratch.

I went to the only door that led outside. Nothing. I screamed for Buster, only to turn and see him staring at me from behind. mmmmm....I thought, odd. How did he get past me.

This began to occur often and I realized that many times my dog would be laying on the couch with me. Nothing would be outside that window.

We put the house up for sale afterwards. The ghost never hurt us but it was just too weird for me to continue coping with.

Not brave at all. I just could not accept that something supernatural was occuring because until we lived in that house, I didn't believe in ghosts. It was pretty shattering to me to accept that I was becoming one of 'those' people who believed in spirits.

Now if I lived in a haunted house, it wouldn't freak me out so much. I would just leave the spirit alone but at the time I was in a battle to retain my beliefs in how the world worked.

Yes, I've had that dream several times! Its like being paralyzed and trying so hard to scream so you can end the nightmare, but you can't scream. Sometimes I wake up making this little hissing sound in my throat, its very disturbing. I wake up with a flood of adrenaline and my eyes pop open. I had one not that long ago, maybe a couple months ago. LOL I'm beginning to sound disturbed.
