Any Of You Ever lived In A Haunted House?

I love reading these posts.

Something that has been pointed out, but I think needs to be mentioned again, is that even though you might have built your house yourself, the land itself has been lived on in the past. Maybe not in the recent past, but there were settlers, Native Americans, what have you. There's not a spot on this Earth where someone hasn't lived at some point.

So, just because there's no public record of it, it's had people on it.

Also, there are residual echoes that a lot of people probably have. Those are usually the breaking glass, slamming doors, voices, etc. that people hear, when nothing is out of order. A lot of times when you have one person that repeats the same actions over and over again, and doesn't seem to notice the living around them are usually more like a recording played on top of our reality.

You can even get these residual echoes from living people. Anytime that you get a place where there was a lot of emotional energy (good or bad) you imprint it with your energy. People that are sensitive can pick up on this energy. This isn't a ghost. It's like watching tv.

Keep the stories coming!

This really isn't a ghost story, but sometimes I'll suddenly wake up at night to someone sharply calling my name. It only happens once and the weird thing is I can always recognize the voice as someone I know in real life. I've always just chalked it up to an active dream/imagination. Weird how real it is though!

Again, not really a ghost story, but there are certain times I can sense a person before I see them. Just seems natural to me that people and animals just have a natural "aura" around them. I can usually tell what type of mood they are in as well, even if I have my eyes closed when they walk in a room.

My dad swears that when he was a little kid he saw a ghost in his bedroom and when he threw his pillow at it, it disappeared. He said that because of that, he believes in ghosts. I always thought it was a funny story, because I can't imagine my dad being afraid of anything! LOL He certainly knows how to scare other people though...the stories he used to tell us! I'm amazed I didn't have more nightmares as a child.

I do. There was a post earlier this year about a similar subject. Things get moved around here, footsteps in the night, the smell of cigar smoke and lily of the valley.

I swear my barn is haunted too.

The house we live in now is haunted. The bedroom closet door will open and close by itself. There is one, only one cupboard door in the whole kitchen that will open, you close it, walk out and come back, it will be open again. I hear music playing at times, can never find where it is coming from. Some times sounds like there is a kid running back and forth in the bed room upstairs above the computer room. That room is packed full of junk, you cant even walk to the other end of it cause it is that full. Never had any problems with the spirit/s except smacking my knees on the open cupboard door in the kitchen in the middle of the night, then I get all "P"d off. None of the dogs or cats will go anywhere near the heat ducks in the whole house, we havent figured that out yet as to why. Some people came here a few years ago and took a bunch of pics, ever pic had orrs on them, esp. the ones taken faceing the heat ducks, them pics had a lot of orrs on them.

Sounds like the voice calling your name might be a spirit guide of some sort? Or, you could be Astral Projecting with the person and they could be calling after you when you leave/wake up. Just a few thoughts.

Funny story about that...my DS who was about 7 or 8 at the time, came running inside crying because he kept saying his Pawpaw was dead!

Freaked me out a little and I said, "Why? What do you mean? What happened??" Apparently, he was outside playing and heard his Pawpaw's voice say his name, loud-like he was yelling at him. I started laughing and asked him what he was doing. He said, "I don't know, just playing." I said, "Are you sure you weren't doing something that you could get hurt on?" He blushed, and admitted that he was trying to make a rope elevator to go up our huge oak tree!

I told him it was his spirit guide warning him not to do that, and that he used Pawpaw's voice, because he would recognize it and stop what he was doing. He looked relieved and a little embarrassed, and we called his Pawpaw to make sure he was ok. We didn't tell Pawpaw why, though! LOL!

I live in THIS old house.

It was built in 1860-ish, maybe older.. the only dating we have is on the wood portion which dates to 1872.

When we moved in the place was a wreck, it had been neglected for about 5 years and looked so sad and pathetic. When we started pulling things out and renovating weird things started happening. After pulling off the 80's enclosed porch and exposing the original covered porch we started to hear singing at night.

Then we pulled down the ceiling tiles in the living room and started smelling cigar smoke on a regular basis. The old owners wife smoked cigarettes but cigars smell a lot different from cigarettes.

After we pulled up the plywood upstairs and exposed the old floor boards in the hallway and bedrooms, we started to get footsteps on the stairs at night, and my personal favourite... there used to be a set of stairs in my bedroom that led from the parlor where the front would have been (it's actually at the side) and there was still two stair treads in the floor/ceiling. At night I would hear footsteps on these stairs and humming. Doors would open and close by themselves.

And then there was the lily of the valley, in the front bedroom after it got renovated and the lighting replaced all you could smell was lily of the valley like a perfume. We breed Mini Labradoodles and one of our customers came to pick up their puppy and brought his sister with him and she could smell lily of the valley, at this time we had none. She said she could sense a young woman, in the front bedroom she was making perfume over the woodstove with lily of the valley (there used to be a woodburner in there before we moved in, something she couldn't have known).
