any one else with flea problems already?

I am so frustrated with the flea problem, I don't know what to do at all. I am in South Louisiana and it seems the hotter it gets the more fleas I see. HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi..dipsy doodle doo....for ants i remember we used the borax on them also...and or,(for red ants) uncooked grits sprinkled on the hills....the theory is...they eat and or take the grits in the nest...then when they eat them they swell and die from the grit expanding..

Hey Lisa, Thanks for the warning. I have used it for at least 10 years and I have never had a problem with any of my critter's or children. Not saying that I want, just saying that I haven't. It does smell aweful, but it works.

Pyrethrin is organic if you buy it by itself and nothing is added to it. It will kill anything!!! At our feed store they sell it for like$36 a quart or half gallon. You can mix in a sprayer or use a hose end sprayer. Since I am not worried about organic I buy Super 38 plus by Hi Yield, it is $109 a gallon and you can spray it anywhere but inside and it kills, ticks, fleas, flies, ants, mosquitos etc.. The pest man said you can spray it inside but wait until it dries before coming in contact with it. I don't have a third arm growing yet, so?!?!

I've been using the Borax in the carpet for a few years it works for us. I also use it around the base broads on the wood and tile floors.
On the box it said you can use it to neutralize urine odors on mattress so I thought I'd try it on the carpet. (We have a male dog that marked EVERYTHING he is fixed now) so I used the borax in the rug cleaner DH even said how nice and clean they are and how good they smell.

Hope this will help others

Can't believe I missed this thread!!! Kuntry is right, they are literally TAKING OVER down here!! DH was threatening to take the couch outside and PRESSURE WASH it!!! His logic was that it's been so hot here that it would dry in a matter of hours.

We haven't had a flea problem but the ticks are terrible this year. ( I've got guinea keats waiting to let loose).

I raise foxhounds, and what I've found that is affordable and works great for ticks is cattle ear tags. I've been using them for years and haven't ever had a problem. I use the purple python tags, not sure which others are safe. I believe the different colors are different strengths.

For dogs that are running regularly I just wrap the tag around the collar and zip-tie it. For dogs that mostly stay in the kennel this time of year I just hang a tag on the kennel fence. My wife uses frontline on her aussie and it's constantly bringing ticks in the house and they drop off dead all over the floor, haven't had any ticks on my foxhounds with the tags.
