Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

See you sure they are roosters? Last year we culled 2 birds I was sure were roosters, until I saw mature rirs... incredibly frustrating.
I don't send any roosters to the freezer until somewhere between 16-20 weeks, depending on how fast they grow. I never cull a bird until I see pointy saddle and hackle feathers, or the rooster has crowed. I hear you though. I had Heritage RIRs and they matured so slowly. The pullets had really thick legs. It was tricky with them for a long time. These breeds I just hatched are really nice, so I may sell extra roosters instead of eating them. We'll see.

The very first time I hatched eggs, I got 100% pullets. It was very confusing for months, because it was my first set of chicks, and I kept looking and looking for signs of roosters. I couldn't compare between chicks because they were all female! And every one kept telling me...you've gotta at least have one fella in there. After that, I kind of had it in my head that most of the chicks I hatched would be female, but it turned out to be the opposite. Roosters, roosters, and more roosters. I made a careful chart yesterday of my chicks. So far I have 3 definite roosters, 3 probably pullets, and 4 complete ? So statistically speaking, this hatch is right on. I sold several chicks already. With my luck it was probably mostly pullets. One good thing though, each of the 3 definite roosters is a different breed, which is what I want, one rooster in each breed.

Hey guys, 9 eggs today. Still think Lemon is not laying. I also am attaching a copy of my Egg Journal from January(In case your geeky like me). After I go thru my receipts I will be able to get a per egg cost!

I love this. I wish I were anywhere near this organized.

The most egg math I do is ask myself, "Do I have enough eggs today to make a poundcake?"

That sounds pretty strict.  Not sure where you live, but I would double and triple check.  I live in an HOA community in Phoenix AZ and have no where near an acre.  We are permitted to have the 3 chicks I have and even more.  (all I wanted was the three)  We do live in the wild west.  So to speak.  Hoping all works out in your favor. :fl

I called animal control and the zoning board. They both said I need 3 acres. Animal control is only involved if we receive an animal cruelty complaint. (NEVER GONNA HAPPEN) Zoning said that I can apply for a permit and it will be automatically denied, but that I can then appeal. They send all my neighbors letters and if no neighbors complain... They should approve it at a hearing. They said the health department is only involved in a cruelty case. What a pain. I am so sad. Before we got the chickens we consulted the neighbors who all said no problem. But since we JUST started getting eggs, we have yet to share eggs to them. So I need my girls to start laying asap.

Off to work as well... Tuesdays are my long day. oh well... got to pay bills and have money to feed the critters.... I am thrilled I have work.

Congrats Kdwag.... Happy for you...

Red... REally like your chart. Is it in Excel? I like using that program but I had downloaded a egg record from some other site and I just write in the number. I had stopped weighing the eggs. I figured they would not get all that bigger till after they molt. Though I do occasionaly weigh them just to be sure. But I do like your chart... I may do that so that Excel can add them up for me.

Have a great day everyone,,,,

So, my partridge plymouth is setting on the nest as we speak. I can't believe how supportive the others are when each is setting on the nest. They wait, and watch, and my RIR occasionlly makes this call that i've never heard her make before, it's so funny, they are so cute. If she lays today, that'll be 3 out of 4. I don't know what's up with my smallest barred rock. I thought she'd of laid long before now.

My 1st lil brown egg. 16 weeks and 1 day. I am so very very excited. My roo stayed with the "hen" and when she was done they sang the egg song together. I was outside the pen and got to watch and was amazed they knew what to do...Lol.
