Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Congrats on the new eggs and hang on those who are still waiting i'm sure eggs are around the corner. USVI, so sorry about your stressful situation, I would be so angry at my husband too, I get mad when he puts rat poison in the crawl space, I just hate the stuff,,,, but it sounds like maybe they may be on the up swing since so much time has passed.

As to my stressors, I have considered the option of letting my chickens free range in the evening before bed time when my dogs are in the house. THat's my biggest problem. SInce the girls have never left their run, I don't know what to expect from them or how easy they will be to corral so thinking it would be easier just before bed time. I did let the crazy girl free range one evening for about 1/2 hour but the minute she got back in the run, she went nuts on Clara, so i don't think the small space is her problem but I do feel a larger area for them to roam would save Clara from some violent attacks, maybe, don't know. I'll try isolation a few more days but after that if it doesn't help, the crazy chick will have to go, the stress and potential dangers just aren't worth it. I do not believe I'll ever get barred rocks again though. It seems like every article I read re: a bully hen often involves this breed. ?? I'm afraid the current victim, also a barred rock, will become the same way once Clemi, crazy chick, is out of the pecking order. This is way too much!! LOLOL I thought dogs were bad. :)

So I came home everybody is still alive. My one hen in quarantine ate but didnt seem to drink much water. I did add water to her food. I really dont smell much of an odor. Her abdomen is still swollen and squishy. I let her out to forge a little... she was scratching looking for food. I didnt get an egg from her but got 5 from the other girls. I did trash the eggs since they are all on antibiotic for a respiratory infection. Can that cause her swelling??????
I did as you guys said. I got them some papaya and they ate it. Will feed them some more tomorrow.

Don't worry sweetie, it's going to get better. When I first started letting my flock out, they were much younger, but I learned that they really are like homing pidgeons, and have a deep sense of where home is. They would venture out in little spurts, and hear a noise, and race back into their pen.. too funny truly. Even with your flock being older, I am sure the same thing will happen. they will venture out in small bursts, and get spooked, and run back home. I am still amazed how they all put themselves to sleep as well. About 5:45pm they all head back to the run and the coop. The straggler is always Maizy, the columbian wyandotte. It even gets dark, and she is still dilly dagling Duke comes out several times and makes those special noises as if to say...."any day now!".

Clemi is in the barn tonight, all by her lonesome self--Her crate is full of straw, and I added a make shift roost bar, which i can't believe she is on because it's not secure, but, I covered the crate with blankets including the front and I checked her and she was roosting so hopefully she's warm enough. I let her roam the barn for a bit this evening because I felt sorry for her being cooped up, was that good or bad??? I gave her scratch and some grass and part of an apple, I felt so sorry for her as she sat and squeaked at me. We had a little heart to heart and I begged her to be good so she doesn't succumb to a horrible fate, but alas, the extra run is coming along well and almost done. Everyone else in the run is so much calmer without her. I noticed my RIR giving the other barred a couple of little warning pecks when they were eating, but nothing severe. Funny, the RIR is the lower 2nd in order but she's like the protector of the flock. I had left the pen door open by accident and my german shorthair was standing there watching me unknown to me, and the RIR was making some weird noises, when I turned around, there he was, holding steady. When I closed the door, she quieted down, so, she must be like the rooster. Ohy vey, I need to quit worrying so much. Thanks for the support. :)

I hope with each passing day, the chances all will be fine increases. I've got to remember Papaya. I also heard squash was a natural dewormer?? I give mine squash quite a bit, they love pecking it and in the winter, it lasts way longer since it freezes. Ha ha Are you originally from the USVI, I can't imagine living there. It must be quite spectacular. We're expecting a small amount of snow tomorrow night, but, 50 by the weekend.....woot, woot!!!
