Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Oh USVI, I am so sorry to hear this. What a sad thing, I send you a big hug honey. Are there any marks on her, and signs of what may have happened?

My biggest fear,
xo
Carmela

I saw some marks on her face and feathers about the place... I have a feeling it was the cat. I have been cooping him but he never sits long enough to shoot. As he sees someone he runs. But I am out for blood on him. I want him gone.

That's aweful USVI. Are the others acting ok? Makes me wonder what they saw.
The others came out and went on their normal way to forage. Tonight I am gonna sit and wait and see if it comes around again. Its a feral cat that belongs to no one. I found him 2 times sitting in front the cage around 7pm, which is the time I look the up for the night.
Sooo sorry USVI. I know how in love I am with my RIR, she's not friendly with me but i just love her colors and her demeanor and how she has that Queen of the hen house look without the bad attitude. I hope you can figure out what happened to her, I think not knowing is the worst. Chicken hugs your way.
Spice my RIR was one of my 1st hen to gave me an egg. She didn't mind being handled. Sucks to lose her.

We're doing a little snow ranging today.

Good morning from my side of the planet....

I am sad this morning.....

. Yesterday I came home late, I had training so I wasn't able to monitor or see the girls when they head in for the night. I came home around 10pm to find on of my girls layed out (my RIR) on the floor. I couldn't do anything for her, when I let her out the morning she was fine..she ate normally. I woke up this morning and she was gone.

I don't know what happened. I know I've had a cat checking them out...which I am trying to get rid of. I am so at lost of what happened to her.

So sorry for your loss, yardbird. I hope you get the culprit this weekend. It sounds like you're ready for him.

That is Loretta, an EE. I really love her coloring, and wish there was a way to reproduce it! You can't see it in the picture, but she has bright blue earlobes. Weird! She lays blue eggs...no green at all. I'm really curious about what breeds are mixed in.

First egg from my silver laced wyandotte bantam hen
Hope fully soon i'll be abel to hatch some providing the cockerel is doing his job. :)

I am curious. Do your white Marans lay as dark of an egg as the Black Copper?

They're not laying yet, but the eggs I hatched mine from weren't very dark at all. The breeder warned me ahead of time, but I got them anyway, because his birds are stunningly beautiful. I've heard this is a common complaint with white Marans.

USVI so sorry to hear about your lose.
My girls are still being lazy. I have only been getting 2 eggs per day and no eggs yesterday. So for those of you that got to see the video I posted of Phoebe laying eggs. She is a Welsummer and she used to lay darker brown eggs, that was the same color as one of my SS's eggs. I didn't realize it until I was showing my DH the egg and second guessed the eggs I was showing him because of the color. But at that time it was the only egg laid that day, since I write the date and weight on the eggs I knew it was the right one. So maybe I don't have as many SS laying as I thought.

I just have to tell you a funny egg story. I have written on my eggs since I got my first egg. Last year I have my brother some eggs there were 2 that he forgot in the fridge for a long time. I had him put them in water to see if they floated and they did so he threw them out in his compost pile. He doesn't have chickens but his neighbor does. They are not very good about starting in their own yard or laying in their nest boxes. So Terry(my brother) finds random eggs laid in his yard. Yesterday he found one over by his compost pile. He brought it in his house and was going to put it in the fridge when he notice that it had the date and weight written on it. Lol It was from last July.
