Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Oh how funny! It's a good thing you write on your eggs!

I had another 6 egg day, except for one problem....I have an egg eater!! One of the chickens ate my JG's egg! Noooo! Egg eaters are so hard to untrain.

So today the kids had yet another snow day, but tomorrow our weather is supposed to start warming up in a big way. My chicks in the nursery coop are now 6 weeks old, and I think that they're ready to go without the heat lamp. That's a big relief. It's stressful having it in the coop. They're all pretty much fully feathered, although not in the prettiest way. The white Marans are gorgeous! They almost look like doves flying around in the baby coop (btw, if my BF ever proposes, I'm going to insist we release a flock of white 6 week old chickens at the ceremony

) But the rest of the birds look pretty ridiculous. I have 23 eggs in the bator hatching next week, all for sale, and 30 eggs arriving the week after (all for meeeeee!).

Yeah, I have chicken fever in a big way. What's worse is I'm between deadlines at work, and have nothing to do most of the day except read about chickens, which is only fueling my desire to hatch more chickens.

Good morning from my side of the planet....

I am sad this morning.....

. Yesterday I came home late, I had training so I wasn't able to monitor or see the girls when they head in for the night. I came home around 10pm to find on of my girls layed out (my RIR) on the floor. I couldn't do anything for her, when I let her out the morning she was fine..she ate normally. I woke up this morning and she was gone.

I don't know what happened. I know I've had a cat checking them out...which I am trying to get rid of. I am so at lost of what happened to her.

That's terrible :( So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are out there for you

Broosterspringsteen, Do you ever sell any of your blue Ameracauna eggs for hatching purposes? I am keeping watch for some in case you ever run across some, or have some. ;) So far it seems those who sell the eggs might not be reliable for getting a true to breed bird, which isn't a huge deal for me right now, but the 2 americaunas I have are really EE and one has not laid all winter. Some day I think that is the breed I want to work on breeding with.

I wish I had some to sell you! I got my original hatching eggs from Wild Oats Organic Farm here in NC. His stock is beautiful. I originally had a pretty large flock, but a raccoon mob took both roos and several hens. So now I only have 2 hens. I've ordered some more Blue Am hatching eggs to arrive in 2 weeks. It's tricky breeding Blue Ameraucanas, because to be honest with you, I don't really care for the splash or black colored birds, but you can't breed blues without hatching all 3 colors. Those blues sure are pretty though. Keep an eye on the hatching egg forum, or ask someone in the Ameraucana thread about availability. I see them frequently for sale in the forums, but the most popular breeders usually have waiting lists.

Sorry I have not been up lately... I have been a little busy. Part of it is trying to keep up with all the weeds we get here. So sorry for the bad weather out there.. Really... I do worry about all of you when I hear on the news that another storm is coming. We have rain for the next couple of days and I can get caught up on some of these threads and some indoor chores.
USVIYardbird so sorry for your bird. I know it is hard to lose one. We get so attached to them and when we know who takes them away... I wish you luck in getting the culprit.
Happy egg waiting everyone... I have a 17 week gold star that I am watching closely. Don' t think she is quite ready yet. My cuckoo Marans are a way off but they growing nicely. They are 14 weeks old...

Sorry for so many pics... I did try to limit myself.. Hope you enjoy.

Ya, I have been watching too. :).

Like I said, right now I don't have fancy breeds, and I started with chicks from the feed store last year so I could see if I could even keep them alive through the winter... Which I was very concerned about after reading some of the foofoo nonsense on the Internet, but they are all alive and well, so I must be doing something right.

I volunteer for a local preschool and one of the teachers asked me if I had eggs they could try hatching so I am giving her a dozen of eggs from mine which would be various birds mixed with the buckeye roo, so who knows... I could get some interesting babies.
