Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Kacklin...thanks for the encouraging words. Three at least are squatting...the australorp squats every time she even thinks I'm going to touch her. I've definitely heard egg song from one of them. But all that's been going on for over a week. It is possible they might be laying during free range time but I keep an eye out and haven't found an egg yet. They are not even late!!! Only 21 weeks old...I'm just impatient. We have onions in but nothing else as we're completely redoing our back yard this summer. We're putting in a little fence/gate on the side yard so they will have a much larger confined area...I have so many plans for what is going to be planted where when that's done. Spring is on its way, although here it's not so dramatic as elsewhere. I am getting ready to retire soon and am worried about what I will do with all my time...the chickens will help!!!!

Oh No, you are in great company. I too sit and live vicariously through our friends.

I know it is getting close now. My BA has been singing and today she squatted for me.
Any day now.

. I've been filling my time with some spring planting. Am trying a
container garden this year since the ground here in Sunny AZ is hard as a rock.
So far have several herbs planted, lettuce and radishes are appearing. Tomatoes, pepper
plants, zucchini and beans are taking their time. Planted some flower pots. I feel so
thankful for the simple things in life. Wishing you all a wonderful evening.

Only 2 eggs today, so they aren't completely on strike b/c of the weather. Supposed to be nice this weekend. Going to expand their coop. They don't know it, but Igot 6 of the cutest bantams today. One is a silkie! Now Iget to wait it out with them to see which ones are boys and girls. Got nipple waterer connectors coming in the mail. That will be fun to rig up. Hope all are well with the weather out east and now another starting in the west. Good night all :)

Xshoshin - I have a few years yet before I consider retirement. However, we have a plan in place and if all goes well...
My husband wanted me to wait to get chickens until we retire and I told him I wanted to know how it's done before then.
He's glad now that we have them. I think he enjoys them as much as I do. Well, not really.

He's actually agreed that
our final home purchase will be in a spot where we can keep the chickens. He knows I won't even look at a place
that doesn't. Amazing how these little critters work their way into your heart and soul (some of them anyway).
Have a good night everyone. Keep warm.

Good morning from my side of the planet....

I am sad this morning.....

. Yesterday I came home late, I had training so I wasn't able to monitor or see the girls when they head in for the night. I came home around 10pm to find on of my girls layed out (my RIR) on the floor. I couldn't do anything for her, when I let her out the morning she was fine..she ate normally. I woke up this morning and she was gone.

I don't know what happened. I know I've had a cat checking them out...which I am trying to get rid of. I am so at lost of what happened to her.

Oh USVI, I am so sorry to hear this. What a sad thing, I send you a big hug honey. Are there any marks on her, and signs of what may have happened?

My biggest fear,
xo

Sooo sorry USVI. I know how in love I am with my RIR, she's not friendly with me but i just love her colors and her demeanor and how she has that Queen of the hen house look without the bad attitude. I hope you can figure out what happened to her, I think not knowing is the worst. Chicken hugs your way.

Tonight is Clemi's release night from isolation -- please cross your fingers that she does well. We did get the new run extension done and attached and everyone seems very happy with it, I hope it helps her. They now have 8 x 16 feet to roam in.
