Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Mine eat the feed off the ground after they do this too. So it's not really wasted but it is SO irritating!

I have been listening to to loudest longest (25 minutes at least) eggs song the Phoebe has ever sung. I am wondering if she is going to lay a huge egg!

SO IRRITATED with my girls right now

I just filled their feeder yesterday. With some of that Purina feed I got at Wilco. They have had it before and they liked it. It's the same place that makes their off brand food they eat. Well they decided they like to eat off the ground rather then out of the feeder. They use to do this with the crumble that's why I stopped buying them it. I can't hang the feeder off of any thing so I put it up higher for them when they were digging out the crumble with their feet. Maybe fermented feed might be the way to go. I just hate the fact that I spent good money for the feeder and wont be able to use it for the fermented feed.

And I have the same problem. They only want the corn and flick out everything else. I tried one organic feed and they flicked out the crumbles. So I bought another brand of organic with seeds and pellets. They eat the corn, seeds and leave the pellets. I bought some large inexpensive dog food bowls that are shaped with sloping sides so they *can't* turn them over and that is great for dividing up the feed into multiple bowls to cut down on the picking on each other. There are 3 bowls out there with pellets in the bottom and they look like they're starving. I'm thinking about fermenting feed also.

I might have to try that. KnobbyOaks. I bought 200# of this feed and that will last them 6 to 7 months. They get a lot of fresh fruits and veggies when the garden is growing so I don't have to give them as much feed.

I gave them fermented feed for a few days and they really liked it. But I only did it because we had a heavy rain and it ended up soaking their bag of feed that we kept in an old freezer. It was only about 10 lbs of feed and I didn't want to waste it and it wasn't moldy yet but it would have been if I left it till the feeder was empty so I fermented it. It didn't take too much work at all. I had it in the house and it didn't smell bad either.

I just finished reading the first 10 pages of the Fermenting thread and I think I'll try it in a small amount. I just a little worried because my feed has some animal products in it (fish) and they're all talking about grains or chick starter. Gonna try anyway, I'll find out soon enough.

Good Luck! I am not sure how it will turn our with the fish in it. It might be just fine but have a smell to it. We make our own beer so the (little)smell that the FF makes it's bad at all. I guess it might be smelly to some people though. Mine was really bubbly after about 15 hours but even more so at 24 hours. That's when I feed it to my girls because they were running real low on their pellets. They gobbled it up. Well it took about a minute for them to check it out before the "brave" one tried it, then they all wanted it. They are so funny when it comes to new things.

That's encouraging. I don't smell the fish in it and I'm not sure there's that much in it, just helps with the Omega3. Did you use ACV in your first try that took 24 hours?
