Did you chickens just start laying? if so thats normal. Do they free range? maybe found a spot outside to lay an egg.

Of course I'm sitting here eating pickled herring so what do I know about fish smells.

Yes I used ACV with Mother in it. I only had about a 1/3 cup left in the bottle so I dumped it all in.

Ugh sometimes I hate being friends with the local feeds stores like NOW when they have their new baby chicks in and post about it. Don't they know how hard it is to resist going n looking n falling in

In a word, YES!

I'm making a little 2 cup batch so I put in a spoonful of ACVw/mom in it. Using two CoolWhip tubs with holes punched in the bottom of one and about 2 cups of water.

Let us know how that works.
My hubby works at Fred Meyer and he asks for the frosting buckets from the bakery dept. They come in all different sizes, sometimes you can even get ones with a lid and they are food grade too. I used a 3 gal size bucket when I did it. I didn't plan on keeping the processes going so I only used one bucket.

I don't know what the deal is today with Phoebe. She has YET to lay an egg but one of my SS ( I think Tess) and Daphne my other Wellie has laid but Phoebe is just singer her little heart out for everyone that laid today. Her and 2 SS just came out of the coop. They run out right after her and just stare at her. My SS are not big on singing at all. My Wellies love to sing and Phoebe is the STAR singer. lol

Nakstk: They are not free range.

Audrey just laid the 5th egg for the day, my first 5-egg day. It was so late in the day too. I usually let them out to free-range the last half of the afternoon and when I went to check on them, and found 7 of them together a good distance away doing their normal scratching-thing in the leaves. I got a lump in my throat when there's one I can't find. I finally looked in the nest box and there she was, quiet as ever, with no sentry around, no midwives, no attendants, nobody. She quietly laid an egg, descended down the ramp and no egg song. Kinda sad as she's the one who is the sentry for all the others.

How many hours of sunlight are they getting? My research indicates they need at least 14 hours. This comes from someone who is a newbie and still waiting for my 1st egg. So, in other words, my opinion is worth what it cost you.

OMG OMG OMG - Please join me in a celebratory DANCE!!

This is the song I heard when I found my first ever egg in the chicken coop today!!

Will post photo as soon as my cell phone charges.

Thanks for waiting for me to catch up and handling my venting. You are the
best!
