Picture please!!Okay, yesterday I mentioned that all the big girls need to follow the example of my little white silkie "Cloud", who led the way by giving the first 2 eggs this week, and today my EE "Chipmunk" laid her first egg!!I got to witness it around noon today and hear her first little "egg song".![]()
It is a tiny little greenish blue one, looks silkie sized. LOL.
Just for reference, she is 21 weeks old today.

What beautiful pictures!!! Well done on the eggs. She sang a very quiet, no fanfare, egg song.
HOWEVER, a little while after taking these pictures, my silkie went into the nest and laid down for a while. My daughter and I sat out there in the run and waited to see if she was going to lay her third egg for the third day in a row. After a bit, she same to the door of the coop and sang the loudest egg song - she got the entire flock going with her, including the roosters. So, we checked the nest and NO egg. Really? Then, a few minutes later, she went in again. Two roosters took turns going in and laying face to face with her, talking to her and when she came out this time, no egg song and still no egg. Do they go through all the motions, even the egg song sometimes, but still don't lay? Hmmm.....
Little Bit is so handsome. I bet you jumped out of your skin. I guess he may have been attracted by the warmth but sometimes I wonder if cats know EXACTLY what they're doing. Maybe he was teasing you?We have 3 cats, and one of them, Little Bit, was absolutely mesmerized by the chicks when they were in the house. We had them in the guest room, in a biiiig cardboard box and were very careful to keep the door shut. Sometimes Bit would come in with us and watch until the day he jumped into the box with them. He's a hunter so we knew that was the end of that "getting to know you" time. A few days later I went in to the chicks in the morning and lo and behold! found Bit IN the chicken box curled up under the light...he had snuck in when I checked on the chicks the night before and spent the whole night in the box with the chicks! Not a one was scratched or even frightened of him...I had a belated heart attack but was so happy he considered them family rather than food!
