Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

We are building another coop and i was wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether to put the 2x4s on their side or flat?? Do chickens prefer to roost where their claws can sorta wrap around the roost or do they prefer a flatter surface like the wider side of the 2x4?

Our old coop had them on their side and I noticed where they were fighting to be on 1 area where I had it flat, so the new coop has only the flat sides up for them :)

I don't get it, Lilly started laying the last day of February and all of March a week into April then quit. Anyone else hear of this? She's absolutely fine otherwise. Is this normal? Any input appreciated :)

Got reminded again that when all else fails for animals, common sense is your best bet. My rooster has had weird runny white poop for the last couple of days. He is acting fairly normal other than that and a comb that is slightly darker than normal in the morning. Once he eats and gets moving it is back to normal. The poop was worrisome though so I spent the morning watching him. It finally hit me that it all started when I moved the feed out of the shed and onto the porch because my sitting hen was complaining about all the ruckus in her shed(diva). So he hasn't been eating enough and prefers the dry mash to the fermented stuff I give the girls. So some dry mash and water with extra ACV in it and he is pooping closer to normal already. Had a bit of a duh moment after scaring myself silly on the internet.

Goblin just layed her 1st egg a week ago. All have been like the one on the right, Thursday she layed this huge one LOL

The one on the right is from today :) Now we have her sister left to start laying, I thought being born the same day they'd start the same time? Also our Dominic (Lilly) hasn't layed for over a week, is that normal?
my partridge plymouth sometimes goes a few days in between laying but not a week. I don't think she laid regularly when she first started laying either. Did Lilly just start laying?

She's 8 months old, layed last week of Feb. all of March and 1st week of April then nothing that I know of. We've been out of town for 2 weeks and now we're back. I've been watching her with no eggs for 4 days we've been back. Other wise she's absolutely fine. Eating, drinking, acting like the rest of them.

I also did the flat side of the 2x4's - my purpose was because we can get to single-digits, sometimes 0 degrees in the winter, being able to lay on their feet is good for them keep warmer.

Happy Earth Day everyone...

Let's do our best to take care Mother Earth as well as we would our own mothers.

I love this day, for all it represents, it's also my third born's birthday!
