Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Oh Congratulations! I understand that pinch yourself feeling. We moved here, left the hectic life and suburbia to move to a far more rural place. We were fortunate to cash out after selling our home in the suburbs and buy our little 6 acres of Heaven. Thank God we did, as right after we moved, my husband suffered a horrible injury at his job, and broke his neck and back.. Thankfully he wasn't paralyzed, but lost his way to make a living the way he had been. He recuperated for a year on our lovely little farm, and it is just so peaceful here. That was 5 years ago, and I am still not totally unpacked!

Blessings to you and yours in your little piece of paradise!

Where do you live MB? We are in Southwestern Maine. Small town of about 2300 people. I have met a couple of people, my husband works about a half hour away and up until 18 months ago, I worked in Portland, Me for our local infamous cable company. I am a stay at home chick and doggie mom, try to keep up with the mayhem here, and DH works for a couple more years. It is peaceful here.

Sounds lovely! I am 90 miles north of NYC, in upstate NY. We used to live on Long Island. My DH was a professional athlete.. and we have 4 children...1 on his way, 2 in college, and my lil baby turns 13, no more lil girl! I too am a SAHM, to the kids, the horses, dogs and now chickens! lol... I am building a second flock of breeds I've always fantasized of owning after enjoying my layer flock for the last two years. DH is getting a bit frightened it's booming out of control, (which it is a bit), but trying to get the two new flocks up and running before winter, and the 2nd coop and run isn't finished yet, so I have all different ages growing out in the empty horse stall...he wants them out of the barn.. so do I, but my handyman is dragging his feet!

How many dogs do you own? what kind?

I have three mini dachshunds, Herman is 9, Heidi is 11 ish, Bug <standing> is almost 5, Scout (white) is almost 10 a schnoodle, and the puppy is a Golden retriever Polly. Polly is 4 months old, only 16lbs, the runt of my daughters litter. She is about the size of Scout. Then we have six GLW, 2 SLW, and a RIR rooster.
Baby on it's way, cool, and a 13 year old, my DD's kids are 17, 14, and 4. So I get it, mine 4 boys and a girl range from 40 - 25.

OH LOVE THAT... I love dachshunds...That is great! We have 3, and would love one more, but until I get to put on my much wanted expanded kitchen and family room, things are a little too small here. I have an English Shepherd, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, and my daughter's Chihuahua.

Aw, sweet babies. I really didn't want this many dogs, and when the older ones are gone, I won't replace them, I don't think, but they are all special in their own ways. It's kind of like my kids, I had two for so long, and then I married my hubby, got two more, and then we adopted three. You never know how it will work out.

I'm still so excited about my new EE layer!

Was kind of wondering about the 2nd egg because the first was so small but perfect. I know that many times, it takes a while to get into a routine...BUT.....here's the 2nd one...

I don't know if it will encourage anyone else but two weeks ago tomorrow we got our first egg from 10 barred rocks that were 20 weeks and two days old. The day before yesterday and yesterday we got 5 eggs each day then today we have 6. It takes about 3 to equal one store bought large egg but at least most, if not al, l are laying and some of the eggs are starting to get a little bigger.
