Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

That's awesome! I'm happy she's okay!

On the different note of waiting for eggs, one of my 16 week old ISA browns squatted for me today! Her comb and wattles and large and red and she was VERY chatty today!

Tonight we had a cat in the yard. My she was scaring it off, he heard clucking and Nicky came out of the woods. I am guessing the feathers I found were when the hawk dropped her. She must have hid in the blackberry bushes near the woods. But she is back and not looking hurt. I got her back to the coop with grapes.

I'm so amazed and so thankful...,.,bless her heart!!

Still no eggs today. 50 degrees in chilly southwestern Maine. Rocky the RIR Roo has been crowing off and on this morning. When the girls run for cover, he takes over the feeding dish and water feeder. I cleaned out the coop, and gave them my leftover oats and raisins as a treat. All of the girls except maybe two out of eight have nice red waddles and combs! I should have eggs soon!

I have a variety arranging from 19 weeks to 25 weeks. Still haven't seen eggs yet. I do let them free range. The weekends they get more time. Week days it is usually 3 p.m. til dusk. But I am wondering if this is due to many roosters. I have 6 to 28 hens. I am culling 5 of the roosters on Tuesday. My question is this can to many roosters cause this much stress that they are not laying?

I have 10 twenty-two week old pullets and 9 seventeen week old pullets and 5 seventeen week old Roos. The older pullets are laying without a problem and they are laying fertile eggs. It might just have to do with the breed. My dominant roo stays busy with the 10 older girls and ignores the younger ones but some of the other roos try to breed the younger ones some but they are not ready and sure don't care for it. Since they are free ranging are you sure they are not laying out somewhere? I didn't let mine free range til they were laying in the nest boxes. The first 3 eggs were on the coop floor but all the rest are in the nest boxes. I have been getting 5-6 eggs a day for the past 5 days.

I have two Barred Rocks and a Rhode Island Red that people on this forum have identified as a "Production Red."

Both Barred Rocks were hatched on April 5.
The RIR hatched on April 12.

The largest BR has been laying now for about a week.
She was squatting for 2 weeks before that, but she's rather tame.

The other two won't let me get near enough to see if they'll squat.
The other BR is quite a bit smaller than the girl that's laying.

Anyway, I'm starting to get weary of waiting.
I'm threatening them with Chicken and Dumplings!
I wish they'd lay - bad birdies!
