Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Wow did I have some catching up to do. ;) I have been a little busy. Jtbass your EE hen is so pretty. Love her color and her egg color. I can hardly wait to see what mine will lay... Though I have a wait. They all just reached 3 months of age. waiting... waiting... :) But I love it anyway;)
Macy and Mellabell.... I am very jealous ;) your places sound amazing. It can be a little hard to get things to grow here... Your places looks so green and lovely. We just got a new dog. We are now up to 3 dogs. Our new addition is a 5 yr old Sheltie rescue. A place near here had a small fire. Nothing was damaged inside the house were it was discovered 61 Shelties were all living inside the house. Mostly in kennels... could say a lot about that.... but ... Well we have our rescue girl. Kona is doing well with her new home and seem to really love being able to run around. We also have another Sheltie (Java) and a 20 lb Pomeranian (?)... Not sure what Nutmeg is but she is a annoyingly wonderful dog that is great with people and kids. The other two are a little timid.
Kona's first introduction to chickens. The leash was just for the first day to make sure she was okay with them.

This is Penny. I think it is a she... I hope... Our one pure EE from the clutch of eggs that were hatched by a chicken and a turkey.

I'm pretty sure the black one is a Roo... Still hoping for the white... The white is turning into a Andalusian Splash... Andalusian have huge combs and wattles... Even on the hens...

My half EE and half Buff Orpington. I'm hoping Iris is an olive-egger...
Out of 9 chicks it looks like we only have 2 or 3 Roos.... With my 11 older girls...That means 16 or 17 hens when they are all grown up... What am I going to do with all these eggs;) Lucky I have been selling some at work... Don't you all love chicken math ;)

My Dh says he doubts he will care if I get more chickens, but no more dogs, I have five which is over his limit of three, LOL. I will say this puppy is about to do me in. She is a handful to say the least. He is lucky my current coop will only hold one more. I have a good sized potting shed, and I also have an outside porch that I could use for potting. I am thinking that the potting shed with two nice sized windows and a bunch of walk around room would make a good sized chicken coop. I could surround that whole area with fencing, it's kind of rocky, and right now we aren't using it. I still want to let the chickens roam, but my vet who lives down the street says she lost a bunch to hawks last year.

STILL NO EGGS. Today it's chilly, they are all just lazying around under the coop and in the yard taking dust baths. I gave them extra treats and everything the little ingrates. I forgot to mention, I ordered those Chickenwaterer nipple things that go on a cooler. Unfortunately I bought a 5 gallon cooler that won't fit up high enough in my current coop. I will pick up a 2 gallon one this afternoon.

REally love your math jtbass.... I am so glad of this website and thread that brings me to so many people who understand...

Thanks Marcy... I am so lucky. I had 2 Roos... (They were delicious... sad but true) So it has been a guessing game to wonder who came from were. I should have taken a pic and good count of the eggs that went out.... I was too excited;) Since they were under birds... we did not get to see them all hatch. I was lucky with Iris. She was the first to hatch when the chicken Tabitha was off the nest. So I know she came out of a Buff Orpinton shell. Her markings and puffy cheeks tells me, Who's-her-daddy, ;)

Gosh, what a morning! We had a large bird, maybe a hawk or eagle get in the pen with the chickens. My cowardly rooster hid, it snatched Nicky, my pretty biig silver wyandotte and flew away with her. My Dh thinks it was maybe an eagle. I had just jumped out of the shower when I heard all the noise. Now I am down to 7 hens and one rooster.

I didn't want them to free range because they may be eaten.

Oh No! So Sorry for you and the hen.

I do let me girls for free range time but only for an hour or so. That last hr before sunset... That way the dusk sends them back in to roost and I know I can be outside for an hour doing chores... I wouldn't let my girls free range all day if I can't be out there to supervise. Even when we did have 2 Roosters....
Again... So sorry...

Thanks, So I am down to seven hens and a rooster.I just went out to check on them and the coop, still no eggs. No sign of any birds overhead. I guess it probably has a full belly for a bit. Ugh! I found feathers a little ways off, so I wonder if she got dropped or the feathers dropped, I don't remember seeing them earlier.I didn't really look in the front before either. I guess supervised free ranging the hour before dusk sounds good. The girls would be able to figure out where to hide in the yard.

Tonight we had a cat in the yard. My she was scaring it off, he heard clucking and Nicky came out of the woods. I am guessing the feathers I found were when the hawk dropped her. She must have hid in the blackberry bushes near the woods. But she is back and not looking hurt. I got her back to the coop with grapes.

That's awesome! I'm happy she's okay!

On the different note of waiting for eggs, one of my 16 week old ISA browns squatted for me today! Her comb and wattles and large and red and she was VERY chatty today!
