I was hoping to have eggs by now Like someone said the Austrolarp has the larger comb and getting redder all the time, then the wellsummer looks next. Rest are still pale.

So pretty! looks like Ms Black Australorp is ahead here..I have one that has full red large comb and waddles,, and the other looks just like your girl! My Barred Rock has very similar barring to yours.

Thank you, the black and white one is actually a dominique, they have the rose comb where the barred rock has the single comb. The 3rd is a RI. I also have a buff orpington, gold sexlink and a wellsummer.

You'd think the Wellsummer (6/13) and the Australorp (7/25) would be laying by now. The others RI and Dominique (8/8) and Gold Sexlink and Buff (9/19) are close too. My 1st 2 batches were all laying at 5 months. hmmmm??? Hopefully soon. Down to 35 degrees so far tonight Brrrrrrr

Wow, cold for out there! you are just about there, I am guessing the BA is going to be first for you. Did your first two batches reach POL at the same time of year? I realize I didn't get chicks at the best time, realizing they would mature to POL during the winter, but I picked cold hearty breeds that were also known to be winter layers. Thankfully winter solstice has come and gone and it's only up from here! One good thing about so much snow around, and them being locked up in the coop/run is that they are sure to all learn to lay in the nest boxes. I am sure if these new layers were out in the heavy bushes where they hang out, they would have thought that was a fine place to lay! They also got to be new little chicks and learn about being outside when it was so nice and warm.

Have no fear... their time is coming soon!

Greetings all! How did I miss this fun & informative thread!? Our ladies (our first ever)are 23 weeks old today... only one has been laying (I THiNK only one anyways) ...but is it possible, 11 eggs in 11 days, from one hen?

Wait your Wellie hatched 6/13? it didn't look mature enough to have hatched then. I was going off your dates in for first post which was 8/13. But if it is 6/13 that puts it at 30 weeks today.It should be laying anytime then. I still say that Australorp will be your first to lay it looks more mature then the others. have any of them been squatting for you.
My Wellies were 24 weeks when the first one laid and 25 weeks for the second one.
It's 36 degrees here right now and they are talking more snow before the end of the week.
BTW still waiting on my EE Greta to lay, she is 38 weeks today

These are the 2 closest to laying I think. BA is 5 1/2 months and Wellsummer is 7 months.

Wait your Wellie hatched 6/13? it didn't look mature enough to have hatched then. I was going off your dates in for first post which was 8/13. But if it is 6/13 that puts it at 30 weeks today.It should be laying anytime then. No squatting yet Yes it's 6/13. Sorry put up wrong date, didn't have my glasses on I guess LOL Sounds like we are in the same climate Getting the same forcast. Will keep all informed

Sure is, my RIR (Ladybird) started laying at 24 weeks old in late November and Beetle the Australorp soon after. They both lay an egg a day almost without fail. (There might only be 3 or 4 days over that time that one missed a day). It is summer here, but, regardless, I think some good layers - once the ON! switch has been found - will reliably lay every day. Others will be like Sylvia the Silver Campine. She lays 4-5 eggs each week, so not every day. Barnie the Barnevelder just started so not sure what she'll be like.

I shared the good news yesterday - which was my first ever 4 egg day. Now the bad - Sylvia decided to go broody the same afternoon. I chucked her out of the nesting box three times, then opened the lid to it and the front to the coop so there was nowhere cosy and dark. She had a real hissy fit with me. Fluffed herself up and screeched like a banshee.

Today she has been up and about as normal, though, so I am hoping that I noticed it so early and was so persistent with her, she's decided to give up on the idea

It looks like you might have a little bit a tail feather pulling going on there. They are getting closer though. This lack of day light really does slow things down.
