Oh, one more thing. I had a dinner party last night here for some clients of DH. All of my fresh egg stash walked out the door with our guests... Now we have to start our stash again! 8 eggs yesterday!

8 eggs? Nice!

I hope Greta turns up. I once had a hen go missing for 3 days. And then one morning there she was waiting outside of the coop to be let in. I still have no idea where she was all that time.

I also have a son in the 10th grade. Isn't it amazing how fast they grow up? You blink, and next thing you know they're driving and talking about college. My son has applied to the NC School of Science and Math. If he gets in, he'll go away to school next year. I want him to get in of course, but I can barely think about it without crying. I thought I'd have him around for a couple more years.

She has still not showed up yet. I got up a daylight and my boys and I searched ALL over our neighborhood and our yard again. No signs of any foul play no feathers no blood nothing. We did find that one of the neighbors Husky that is normally in their fenced in back yard was not in there this morning and she followed us all over. Then she followed our scent in to our back yard and scared the crap out of my other chickens. All of them have been extremely vocal this morning and I hope that brings Greta back and soon. I have to leave in a while for Gabe's game. :(

My husband helped me this am with a coop remodel LOL Since they want to lay on the roost side then they shall. Moved the roost to the other side and the nests to the side where they were laying :) Lets see how that works... Good morning all! Here's to Greta returning home safe, 1st eggs to those still waiting, and many eggs to us who are recieving :)

Back from the basket ball game and still no Greta.

The girls are all still be very vocal and the really want out. Now I am so afraid to let them out if I am not our there. But I didn't sleep well and I don't want to stand out side with them. Even though that might be the best thing right now, its so sunny and not warm (42) but not too cold.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

So, recall my RIR had laid some eggs, 3 in 3 days, but the last 2 days, nothing. I also noticed her face, comb, waddles, have turned a paler shade of red . It has turned cold again, like a 30 deg. drop and is now snowing, the wind was really bad for a couple of days as well. Do you think she has gone on a laying hiatus due to the cold or is it something I need to be concerned with? She seems fine, eating, active, drinking, etc. Just no eggs. I did notice one of my barred rocks was nesting this morning off and on, but no egg. ?? She also seems fine, affectionate as ever, eating, drinking etc.

Yay hooray! I put a people sized door on my coop. The girls watched... pecked my butt, cleaned my boots of snow, and tried to escape. So glad I got it done though. The small door was a sliding on about 18 inches tall and expanded and froze shut yesterday! They were fine for the night. I kept checking them through the window. Now they can lay for me. :)
