She is a royal palm turkey. For those who are new... I had a dog attack a few weeks ago. 6 chicken were killed and 2 turkeys. This girl was VERY badly injured. But today she surprised me. She did not want to leave her eggs but I shoooed her off.

They are bigger then an normal chicken egg. And way bigger then the eggs I have been getting but I don't care... They look amazing ... I was not expecting this. She still has a huge wound... though it has a huge scab... still looks bad. She did not give any of the signs that a chicken would give... so a Amazing surprise for today. And 2 in 1 sitting...

Congratulations Cat..

You are not only a good chicken woman but a good turkey woman! How amazing is that! She can lay two eggs in one day? They are so pretty! Love the contrast against those beautiful chicken eggs. Wow,, please give her a hug from me, and I hope she heals up %100 percent.

So sorry you had to go through that attack. I can't imagine how stressful to birds, and you that was.

Congrats Cat!!!

I still have a hard time saying "those are pretty eggs" but "THOSE ARE PRETTY EGGS!"

So glad she came through the trauma, looks like she gonna be just fine.

I got back from getting the grand-daughter at school and my dominic is sitting inside the coop??? Not in a nesting box, just on the floor below the roost. Could she be??? Fingers crossed!

Those turkey eggs are awesome!

So my dream did not come true. I did not find 4 eggs in my nesting box today. However, my camera did capture this...4 chickens in one nesting box, plus several sideline observers? I'm not sure what's going on there. It was very cloudy and rainy today, so all the images were infrared. This one was taken around 2:00 in the afternoon. So maybe I'll get my 4 egg day soon after all!

Brooster, That looks like someone did a brake check and they all piled up behind her! If I have learned one thing from my first six months with chickens it is to never assume you have seen it all because they will prove you wrong! I am willing to bet tomorrow will be a big day for you! You may need the do a nest box expansion.

now this picture paid for the camera right there... PRICELESS! too funny

Thanks everyone. A friend of mine told me that turkeys lay like chickens... so she must have laid the first egg yesterday and I just didn't notice it. Don't worry Red... we won't give you away and we can't tell anyone etherway.... I love these speckled eggs... They are very pretty. It just made the whole day go good.
That is just too funny the 4 girls in a box Brooster... The pics you are getting are great. If the box was bigger I bet the other girls would have jumped in too... That one on the right seems to be looking that way...

I know! I actually have 4 nesting boxes, with dummy eggs in each, but every chicken I've ever had insists on using that one. So I've pretty much given up on the other three. I was thinking of making some bucket nests closer to the floor. I thought that might relieve some nesting box traffic? I'd really like to make one big wide nesting box, where 4 chickens can comfortably lay at once, but my coop isn't designed well for that.

Went to feed the girls this morning, and 2 of the EEs in that picture, Irlene and Domino, have basically overnight grown bigger red combs. I've never seen combs develop so suddenly. Keeping my fingers crossed for today.

just a random statement....

The thing I hate most about winter time is when
after a beautiful light, fluffy 6 inches of snow falls,
it is followed by a drizzle of rain
making the snow unbearable heavy
a mess when temperatures drop tonight.

On a lighter note,,,I got 5 eggs for the first time this morning! Maybe by 4pm I'll get one more!
