Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

The 6 month olds I have are Hermia-she is a sassy bantam who is a mix, she is iridescent black all over. Slo-fro is a big Buff Orphington/Silkie mix, and also likely a rooster. My sister had a nearly identical chicken who is a hen so we have our fingers crossed. If it is a roo then it is gender confused since it likes to make nests, has never crowed, and takes orders from the teeny little Hermia. The newbies are sex links, cause while I am truly enjoying our home raised chickens that we had to butcher-I want the eggs darn it! So two red sex links-Leeloo, and Amber, two black sex links-Camilla and Phoebe. I'll post pics when I can get decent ones, they run a lot

Oh wow, I can't imagine what a BO/Silkie looks like! Yes, please send us pics, would love to see that! What color was the silkie? You sound like you have a nice little flock who will soon be giving you tons of great eggs!

I thought about getting an Egg Skelter too but I really like my eggs and I know that between my two boys and my hubby the eggs would get broken before we got to use them.

What's everyone's egg count for the month??? Mine is 23! I got 2 eggs per day for 3 days this month. Wooo HOooo.

It's really eating at me that I didn't go back to Wilco and ask for another coupon card and get another 100# of feed. oh well I am sure this isn't the only time they will have this coupon. lol
It's true that boys and Big Boys can't resist trying it out as a racing track. I did a deal with DH - he tries it ONCE with HIS breakfast egg. Yes, he had scrambled not poached that day. They work really well, as long as you take the egg from the bottom and keep an eye on the top curve, sometimes an egg needs a little help round that corner. I love how obvious it is to know which is the oldest egg.

During the long wait for eggs, as well as the skelter, I bought this cute egg carrier and feed box, which I use for the sratch treat which is only half a cup per day. It helped a little to indulge in retail therapy. Congratulations to all the proud new egg owners.

These are eggs from the store as I was still waiting for eggs at the time.

The egg carrier holds 6 eggs and I still take it even though I only get 2-3 most days from my 4 girls. I love it's Retro look.

Another shell less egg off the roost this morning - that's two days in a row and once last week. GRRR!!!! I am thinking I might give them all some Calcivet in their water. I think it's the Barnevelder and haven't noticed her eating as much shell grit as the other girls. Maybe worth a go....

debbie, I have a physical in two weeks, and I am petrified to see what my cholesterol reading will be! We have only gifted 3 dozen out,,, my husband has eaten maybe 2 dozen, kids have enjoyed eggs on the weekends, I have 3 at home, but I think the bulk of them I have eaten. I only have 18 eggs on the counter right now... YIKES! Oh wait, I did make lots of french toast for my sons sleep over last Saturday. But still,,it has not worn off yet, how delicious they are! I did read our fresh eggs have less cholesterol than store bought eggs, not to mention healthier. I think I have to start controlling myself.

I would love to get to the point where I put a sign out front and maybe sell some to the people who drive by. I think I would need a second flock though. I mean, even if I had 8 eggs a day, (more likely will be 6/7, that still wouldn't be enough to sell more than 2/3 dozen a week. I did get the girls for our personal enjoyment, and to share with friends and family. I am actively looking on Craigslist for a used shed to perhaps get some of those fantasy breeds I would like. I also want to get some color in the egg basket!

LOL I'm sure you'll be fine :) We work too hard to keep our girls happy! Am I reading it correctly the most of everyones eggs are kept out? I've always refrigerated. We're just my husband and I. Neither of our kids want any eggs :( If they only knew! Oh well can't force them. I may sell some to compensate the feed though. I myself love eggs too! Favorite is poached eggs on toast

Oh I love that chicken scratch container!

Is Calcivet a calcium supplement, I gather from the name. I had 2 shell less eggs off the roost, and one in a nest box from my Columbian Wyandotte girl, but none since. My girls go insane for the shells I give them back, like it's food! I can't imagine it tastes like anything can it?

I used to refigerate eggs bought from the supermarket because they are often already at least 2-3 weeks old. I prefer to keep mine out as cakes and other baking are better with room temperature eggs. And I know they haven't been hanging around that long.

If you have too many eggs have you thought of freezing them? Eg as beaten eggs you can use for scrambled eggs or cook with. I do that so I have some put by for lean times when they moult. I am trying hard to never buy an egg again!

How old are the Americaunas? That will be exciting to see what color they lay... I so want some. What color are yours, the chickens I mean, not their eggs.

Very good ideas. I have been leaving mine out on the counter, as when I learned you can do that, and also I LOVE to enjoy looking at them. SO LOVE IT! I don't know what I am going to do when they slow down, and also go into molt. How do yours do in molt, I mean do they lose a lot of feathers? I've seen some photos that are downright scary!
