Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Had a Great day outside working in the yard. All the ladies and "Rosco" the Kung-Fu Rooster roamed around and had a great day playing in the dirt and leaves. It was around 70 Degrees, I do feel bad for all of you talking about snow and freezing conditions. im soo sorry. Come visit if you want to thaw out!! I posted a couple Pics. I hope they posted ok.
Can anyone tell me what kind of Bird "Rosco" is? He was our mystery bird we recieved. We arent sure yet.
Hope everyone has a great week.

What a beautiful little girl and girls! When I was first going through your pics I almost thought she was our grand-daughter Haley LOL! I can't wait til it warms up! We've been hanging in the high 30s and mid 40s Blauck! I think Im leaning to the Americauna too not positive

Welcome to all the new people. This is a great group of people to chat with. Today was tough for me I have been a bit emotional. Too close to that time of the month(sorry if that is TMI) I have really seen a lot more reddening in my SS' s comb and waddles. They are getting big again! I really can't wait till they start laying again.
My girls were still very vocal again today. Now I am worried if Greta does come back the rest won't except her back and I will have to reintegrate her. She was already the bottom chicken on the totem pole. I noticed some picking on Daphne today so I think the ranks are changing.

Thanks again for starting this thread. I really look forward to checking in and seeing
who shows up and who is having luck with their girls. Helps me remember that I'm not
alone in the waiting game.

Such a lovely day here in Sunny AZ. Although it was overcast and sprinkled on and off.
I spent some time in the yard with the girls. They have a tractor set up and I let them out
to free range as often as I can as long as I can be out with them.

My husband has been warning me of the hawks that fly overhead. At first I was constantly
watching the ski. Then I got more confident/cocky and just started enjoying being outside watching
the girls' antics. Well guess who showed up today. A nasty hawk. I heard the thing take
off so it must have been very close to our yard. I immediately saw it flying overhead into
a circle pattern. That's when my heart started racing and I looked like a crazy chicken lady
trying to gather up my three fat girls. Thank goodness I got them safely tucked in. I really
hate that they can't free range. Will be moving the tractor a lot more. My girls love to run
and fly short distances. They love to get up onto just about anything they can.

I think it may be time to figure out a new coop design. I wanted to keep it simple until we
knew what the heck we were doing. Have learned a lot in just a few short months. No
eggs yet. 19 weeks and counting. Is looking like a few more weeks for us.

Happy Superbowl.

Hi Cobb.... What about a Delaware? Or Columbian wyandotte? I am new to chickens too.. so I am not sure. We had good weather here too. Lovely day in the mid to high 70's. We can visit the mountains here if I really want to see snow and we do get cold weather and I am sure we will have more of it. But I do love it here in Southern California...

Hey everyone! Very busy day here, and just catching up! So happy to have more new members, and get some update from everyone!
Hi I am also anxiously waiting. I have 1 light sussex, 1 Australorp both 20 weeks and 2 rir bantams who are 25 weeks old and none are laying. I am in Sydney Australia and we are just getting some cooler weather. Hopefully they will start laying before Autumn. If they don't lay does anyone know if they will likely hold off until next spring.
Hi Sunny Days! wow, all the way from Sydney! Glad you are getting some better weather. One of our great members Spikes Chooks is from Sydney also. She was keeping us at the edge of our seats through those horrible over 100 degree days you all had not too long ago! I am no expert, but I think adolescent pullets reach POL through just about anything. Mine reached POL through the dead of our winter a month ago, and now I am getting 6,7, and 8 egg days from my 9 girls! Although, it was after winter solstice when our days start to increase so, maybe spikes can give us some insight! Welcome!
Yeah! It is official 22 weeks old and everyone is laying now! I have 5 22 week old comets and 11 10 month old comets and today I got 16 eggs which means everyone laid! I am so excited. Now I am going to have to invest in some more egg cartons.
Nice to get an update DianaM, so happy all your girls are laying, and so way jealous of 16 eggs a day. I am trying my best to find an affordable 2nd coop to start another small flock so maybe I can have eggs when my first flock goes to slow down/molt, the second can be heating up. don't be a stranger!
Will add some photos shortly. Can anyone tell me how old bantams start laying. Thanks
Hi Sunny days, welcome and looking forward to your pics. I know nothing about bantams, but I imagine, it's all about the same time?

Hello Cobb, LOVE the pictures, your daughter is the picture of health, and beauty, and I admire her chicken whisperer talents! I'm envious, as I can't get near my 27 week old roo without a lot of running. So wonderful. Your pullets look amazing too, also picture of health. Are they RIR, and White Rocks? gorgeous. Rosco looks like he is a combination of a Columbian Wyandotte and a RIR. Where did you get him from? Here is a picture of my Columbian Roo... named Duke
Here is a description of what a CW and RIR will produce..
"
Col. Wyn. x RIR= silver columbian patterned/with red leakage esp. after juvenile molt and the first years feather probably the more they age the more reddish hue the will get/brassiness 50/50 rose /single combs"

Sounds like what you have maybe?

Happy to have you here, welcome to the group!

hey nakstk,

I was actually thinking the same thing for you if Greta where to come back. I know the not knowing would be driving me nuts. How could she just vanish. Most predetors leave some sort of sign. There is a great article in the learning center that talks about how predetors attack, and their mo's with carcass of kills, if even that is what has happened. Anyone else in the neighborhood with chickens? There is a thread on here, where someone lost a chicken, and she came back a month later with 3 chicks... and the owner didn't have a roo, she went down the road, must have mated with a roo there, and went broody, and hatched out three chicks! The owner was totally flabbergasted. I wish that you could be as fortunate, but as you said,, you have adjusted to realizing she may never come back. This plain stinks... SO sorry you have to go through it. I am sorry you are having a bad day, I can really relate to that.

Love to you from us all here at the Waiting thread....wish we could all come to you, set up camp, and go out and look with youHugs Nak, xo

Hi there,
The two hens are a Jersey Giant and a Light Brahma. Yes we do have nesting boxes

Here is the house they sleep in within the coop, that is where I found the broken egg. Dixie, the Brahma was laying in the nest box but I found the egg on the floor of the coop. Those are fake eggs in the pix.

Here is the coop. Yes, I had four Yorkies but just lost one to 2 rattlesnakes that were hiding in the dog run. So now we have 3. That was the saddest day of my life.
By the way. forgot to mention... THIS COOP IS GORGEOUS! How cute, and how lucky are your girls! Love the nesting boxes!

We just found the egg on the right in the coop today. It's so tiny! Our babies were hatched on Sept. 18. So they are about 18 weeks.
loriesmall,,

Looking back, I never congratulated you on this very cute egg! What kind of chickens do you have,, and 18 weeks is way wonderful to get eggs all ready.. Most of us peeps had to wait well into 20something weeks...

Welcome!
