Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

oh my heck,,, you must tell us immedietly if this is true... which leads me to a question for you more experienced egg people....(hint hint Brooster) How old are the fresh eggs you use for hard boiling? I know that these daily eggs that we are all eating are just not good enough for hard boiled eggs, so question being... what do we use... week old,,, two or more? I have a carton of week old eggs for this purpose, DH loves hard boiled eggs. The last two he tried was a disaster... lol

I see all the wonderful reports of the numbers of eggs and while I am so excited for y'all...I'm feeling left out. Is there any one left waiting for eggs???? I feel like the last one chosen for PE here....

How old are yours? Maybe just a bit younger than mine? I think some breeds maybe be faster/slower than others too. Mine are tiny little eggs, gonna take 2 for breakfast but assume they'll get bigger. Very exciting though, isn't it?

Don't feel left out, there are plenty of us here still waiting....and you will have eggs when ours start to slow down, and go into that dreaded molt! Now I am sure it will be fun around here then!

Sure am smiling in Sydney. Such fun! Love catching up with this thread each day and all the great stories.

Just the one egg so far this morning - but three of them are on late mornings/afternoon laying.

I am having my first break from home this weekend since getting my chickens and I am nervous for my girls when I shouldn't be. We are only going away camping for two nights. We have a friend who lives in a small apartment and he always jumps at the chance to come stay at our house with the garden and he gets on well with our cat, Spike too. He is happy to add chicken duties to his list and, luckily, he has had chickens himself so they are all in good hands. Still, I am writing out their (my) normal routine and it does show how much I pamper them. Who cares!?! They deserve it!

We have a slight autumnal chill to the air this morning. Still in shorts but........ All you Spring watchers must start seeing more signs soon.

All the best
Katrina

Funny story I have to share. I have a menagerie here in the city. In addition to the six chickies there are also 3 indoor cats, a snake and two big dogs. Max is a 100 pound Doberman, Honey is a 65 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier that adopted us years back. They usually don't mingle with the chickens but we want them to range through the yard every day so we are getting the dogs used to not chasing the chickens. Today was the first day they spent more than a couple minutes together. I was giving the dogs some meat from an old chicken carcass as a 'well done" treat and who comes over to get in line but my little hen Hermia! She is a bantam and rules the roost despite being smaller than all the others. So despite being squeamish(yes I have been told chickens can eat cooked chicken for the protein, but ewww) I gave her a piece. Well she stuck around right next to the sitting dogs and yelled at me when I forgot her. She even dropped her little piece and when Honey went to get it, Hermia pecked her right on the nose and took it back. Haven't laughed that hard in a while.

I can just picture that, and how funny it is. So I would say that the first exposure was success eh? Good dogs, good chickens, and job well done!
