Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Katrina, thanks for the great information. Our summers are so undpredictable. Last year it got hot and dry in July/August (90's). We don't have many days near 100 but it's happened. We also get the humidity along with that heat. Glad you're having some milder temps. I also heard about cutting back on corn. My girls love a little scratch in the late evenings so I should probably cut that out or find an alternative? I'll have to check the corn contents on that bag.

MB, your new additions are gorgeous--he is something. I'm a little envious. Glad Duke got a home and you can breath a little easier. Mine are still pecking at each other, not quite as brutally. I have been using Rooster Booster quite a bit, they hate it but it seems effective. Liza appears to be healing well. I quit watching them so much because they make me nuts. LOL

Have a safe trip Debbie, hope you find that warm weather. We are getting into the 60s finally although calling for rain every day next week which is ok as it's been pretty dry lately.

Red, that fodder is amazing. I might give that a try as well.

Happy weekend everyone.

Tare care everyone! Husband and I are heading south! Come on warm weather, I'm going to find you. Told my friend our EEs will be laying their 1st eggs for her, can't wait to see the colors. Will update as we go :)
Hope you have a great time and I'm waiting for truly warm weather too, not this fickle junk we've been having. We look forward to the pics of your new eggs. I'm sure you'll be just as excited about them as if you were there.

Hello everyone! I'm trying to catch up on this thread. The kids were on spring break all this week. We were traveling, and very busy in general. Today is beautiful, and I need to get outside and do some yard work, including a long overdue thorough coop cleaning. I have a hatch due this week...Cream Legbars, Silkies, Light Sussex, Bantam Cochins, BLRW, and Blue Ameraucanas! So I need to move the teenage Marans into the big flock, move the 2 3 week old chicks into the nursery coop, and get the brooder ready for the babies. Exciting!

I still have Professor Neutron, my crippled 3 week old chicken. She's growing pretty fast, and is becoming increasingly mobile. She walks on both legs now, but kind of waddles. The injured leg is permanently twisted, but she puts weight on it. She can even jump up onto the roost! I took the 2 little ones outdoors for their first field trip, and Neutron was scratching and digging, and other than a funny walk, acting like a normal, happy chicken. My only concern at this point is whether she'll be bullied when I integrate her into the flock as an older chicken. Time will tell I guess.

Some of my chickens' eggs are starting to get a little duller in color. Anyone else noticing this? I knew it would happen, but I miss those bright turquoise eggs!

Hi Brooster!

So happy your're back! You have so much action going on, so exciting. I can't wait to hear about that exciting hatch! I have noticed my brown eggs going through the gradual lightning process, don't have blue or green eggs,, (not yet)! My news is that the lav/split roo is in house! I am so flippin excited, just have to move Duke, so I can start to integrate the new pair with the flock.

Happy the little chick is getting along,, and only time will tell if the flock accepts her just the way she is. I am hoping for you and her!

I am so excited to see pictures of your new chick hatch! cream legbars.... yum yum!

Happy to hear about the professor's progress. If she's made this much progress in 3 weeks, just think how much more she can improve.

If you're talking about the chicken eggs loosing their gloss? I too have had several like that. What causes it? Lack of calcium or lack of bloom?

Congrats on the new roo! He's a beauty!!

Yeah, I do have a lot going on. This will have to be my last hatch for a few months. My addiction is getting out of hand!!

I need to let all these chicks grow, edit down some roosters, and then go from there. My next project, probably late summer, will be to hatch some olive eggers, once my BCM roos mature. I have three 11 week old BCM roos. Two of them are really ugly, but one is gorgeous! That makes the decision easy, I guess?

my girls.
Congrats Knobby!

I have yet to have 3 9 egg days in a row, so I guess that is something we both will have to keep our eye out for! I so love filling those egg cartons up. DH brought 2 dozen to work with him today since my oldest has gone back to school, I have been building them back up every day. He was having 4 egg omlets or sandwiches every morning! Miss him though!

Wow you guys get a lot of eggs,,, do you give a lot away or sell them or just eat a lot of them. And, would LOVE and olive egger, I just found a photo on line of one, never heard of them before, very neat birds.
