Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

I see no signs of any mating behavior yet. One of my hens is much redder in color in the face than the others. I'm so new to this such I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I haven't heard any chicken song, but they talk so much all the time. I suppose I would be able to hear the difference.im having trouble trying to keep them from sleeping in their nesting boxes. I have a perch, but they always sleep together in one box. I closed them up last night with a curtain, but they actually pulled the curtain down to get into their box to sleep. Gonna try something else. I think they are so close to laying, so I'm afraid by trying to break their bad sleeping place habit, I will delay their egg laying!!

Hello all! I am brand new to chicken raising and I decided to jump on the bandwagon and purchase 6 hens and 2 Black & White Magpie ducks! - Call me crazy... I know, I Hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew ;) LOL

I got the girls from Baxter's Barn in Fall City WA on Saturday and was told that the girls were born during the following dates:
6/6/14 Dominique, and 2 Easter Egger,
5/23/14 Salmon Favrolle, Black Copper Marans, Blue Olive Egger

Here's some photo's of the girls :) Can't wait for some eggs & color varieties !

Black & Copper Marans and Easter Egger

My Magpie's - I was told they are 5 months old

First egg! Hens are 20 weeks and two of my 4 girls started squatting within the last few days. Our Easter Egger laid today in their shallow water pan for cooling off. Not only did she lay in a weird spot, but she also laid around 6pm. It is very hot, so maybe that accounts for the evening time and the cool location. Hopefully will see an egg from my other squatter tomorrow or soon after. It is a small, but beautiful green egg.

Hi Debbie... I think that was an EE.... that is one thing that I love about the Americana/EE is the verity of colors that are out there. I have not seen such pretty eyes... You were just lucky;)

Good luck Citygirl... Let us know when you do see some extra signs.... This is eggciting time;)

Hi Tantricdragon.... I think when you get closer to the end of waiting....20 weeks and on.... time does a weird thing ... it slows down ;) Sorry, but at lease we all here understand;) Your girls look wonderful as well.

OK... I will call you Crazy SondieBlondie;)

but then again we all are here. I had only wanted a turkey or 2 and a few chickens. My first year I had 4 turkeys and 8 chickens. Now I have had several delicious turkeys and one that I kept and 11 hens.... and now 9 chicks and 1 pheasant. Yes it is crazy to start all this... it is very addicting but it is one of the best things I have done. I don't regret one minute of it. It is wonderful to go sit out with your flock and just let go.... Your ducks look great... are they for eating, eggs for eating or just to be beautiful?

SusanPC ... Congrats!!!

That is such a pretty egg!!!... You may want to consider making a couple of small holes and blowing out the egg. It is what I did with my girls. Then I dated it and put her name on it. Those first eggs are so special. But what ever you choose to do... Congrats again!

Susan PC.. those two green eggs in the water dish are hysterical. I have one Ameraucana who stopped laying as soon as the weather turned hot. I miss the blue eggs. I hatched 4 Lavender Ameraucanas 7 weeks ago, but looks like I may only have one girl! uggggg....

Citigirl, I hate when they sleep in those darn nest boxes. Do you have any fake eggs in there yet to show them what belongs in there. I have one Wyandotte who is low girl in the pecking order, and she takes to sleeping in the nest boxes. When she does, I put my childrens play/soccer balls in them at night and take them out in the morning. She gets the idea!

So happy to see all the new members here. Please keep us posted and keep the pics of your birds and eggs coming! I am soon joining the wait with you all. My oldest young ones are 12 weeks. I have an Austra White that is supposed to lay super early. Here is a picture of her... isn't she pretty?

Can't wait to see when she does.

Ciao for now all,
