Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

I really like this pic... I just have to get more before they grow any bigger.... It was so funny last night when 4 chicks were trying to sit on Tia Turkey's back. Unfortunately I did not have my cell with me at that time... but at least I caught this one... Maybe next year when she gets broodie again I should order some eggs;)OMG. another great picture! This turkey raising these chicks is one of my favorite things ever. so adorable. Do turkeys usually roost? I don't even know.. That calendar submission thread is going on, you should sumbit that other photo with her on the log Love that one!

Hi Bobie... They still look a little young but you are getting into the home stretch... You have some very pretty girls there. The white one... Is she a leghorn? I believe I had heard they can start early... Either way she does look like the closest.
Yes, Melabella... the turkeys do roost. :) I am going to have to put up more perches. I will go look for that other thread and see about submitting that pic. I love it too.

The one white one is a pearl leghorn, I thought my cochins look better than she did. But I know it is a waiting game. I hope soon because I have customers on a waiting list for eggs. I use to get a dozen a day then one died sold one to a young girl for her first chicken the others I ain't sure. So now down to 6 if lucky. I am sure it has to do with weather plus putting these teenagers with the older ones.

Hi - my girls are 17 or 18 weeks - we got our first egg this morning from Mrs. Patmore!! It was kind of small, but I am so excited. I have been watching them a lot today and I think two of the other girls are getting ready to lay too. One of them seems exceedingly hungry - comes running every time she sees me hoping for a little snack. I like to make them oatmeal - they love it.

I do not have nest boxes up yet - so I've put a small bushel basket turned on its side in the coop with some hay. I hope they use it. Mrs. Patmore laid her first egg in the dirt.

One of the tetra tints started to get a much bigger red comb and wattles and I was afraid Lady Mary was going to turn out to be Branson! But she is showing strong signs of wanting to sit and lay - so I think the other two tetra tints just are not as mature. Thank goodness. I really did not know what I'd do with a Roo.

I also noticed that they all have large bulge on right breast - but read in the forum that that jut means they have eaten and are full - whew - another worry put to rest. So far, so good!

Awesome, and welcome to the thread! What breed is mrs patamore? Great names by the way. It's a powerful thing when the first one lays.. it gets the rest of them interested and starts great interest in the nest box. the basket is a great idea until you figure out what you will use for nest boxes. Do you have any fake eggs in there, or golf balls in the basket? That will help for Mrs Patmore to see where they are supposed to go! By the way, we LOVE first egg pictures, and seconds, and thirds.. and so on!

May I ask what a tetra tint looks like? Never heard of that breed, is it some sort of hybrid? Oh, and yes, a full crop can be a scary thing when you first see it. They can get impacted, or sour crop if they eat too much and don't have the proper grit on hand to help them digest, especially if you give them a lot of extra treats or snacks.. make sure that you have grit at their disposal.

I am waiting on three 14 week olds to get ready.. Only one has any reddening of combs and wattles. I think I am in for a bit longer wait. I have an older flock of 9 layers, and one roo. Also have 4 10 week old Ameraucanas and 3 Swedish Flower Hens that are 4 weeks. I will be waiting for quite some time I think!

keep us posted! Good Luck!

I have named her pickles and she seems absolutly fine except her leg. Doesn't like to step on it, almost dragging it and flying to compensate. I don't know what to do :(

Hi Debbie!

I am so sorry that the little one doesn't seem better yet. I wonder too if getting off the roost, or a scuffle made her hurt her leg. which part seems to be what is hurt, or does she let you touch it at all? WIsh I could be more help. is she eating and drinking fine, and are the others treating her ok?

keep us posted.,

Hi Everyone,
I'm brand new to all of this, but loving the community here! We just got our new girls two weeks ago. I was told they were POL but not their exact age. They had been kept in quite a large flock of similar aged pullets and some had started laying, some hadn't. I'm not sure which we got! One of the wee hamburgs had a small egg last Thursday (our first, I was so proud) and has had two more little ones since. But the other girls aren't laying yet. I'm not sure if it was the stress of the move or the age of them. I'm waiting... Waiting ... We have two Hamburgs and two EEs, so looking forward to some coloured eggs!

Hi - I am new to this and have not really taken very many pictures yet, but Mrs. Patmore is a Dixie Rainbow. As it turns out, our first egg came from a Tetra Tint (a hybrid of Leghorn and RIR) Her name is Lady Mary - apparently Mrs. Patmore just sat on the egg to help Lady Mary out. My son tried putting an egg sized rock in the nesting basket but one of them pushed it out. (I guess they know the difference!) I will have to get a fake egg and hope they get the hang of using the basket!
