Tetra Tints (Leghorn/RIR hybrid) are white with a yellow tint to the feathers. They are small, fast and can fly very well - and I am told they are good layers - we shall see...

if they have access to free ranging, you should be fine. It's the birds that are in a pen all day and fed treats and human food that is worrisome. I have a leghorn hybrid I am waiting on, and yes.. boy can they fly! I would get the fake eggs though, it really gives them the idea where to lay, otherwise you will be going on an Easter egg hunt to find your breakfast!

Pickles has an appointment at the vet tomorrow at 3:30 pm I hope its good news! She seems absolutly fine except the draggin of her leg Eats drinks, jumps up on logs, goes up the ramp to the roost, all while hopping on her good foot, and the girls love her. I keep her in a cage at night in the coop so shes not trying to get up on the roost and then put her out with the girls every am. Actually they all sleep around her when shes in the cage.

I just got a couple of new chickens a couple of days ago and they are beautiful birds. One is a Barred rock and the other a Buff Orpington. When the owner was taking the birds out of their pen he lifted the Buff by her feet and at the time I thought and said "Poor bird" So the next morning I was looking at my chickens and noticed that the Buff had a slight limp. To make a long story short, I think that it is not smart to pick up a chicken that probably weighs around 5 lbs. that way. I'm sure that's what is wrong with her and I'm very sad to see my new bird limping around and hope she recovers from this. So to anyone that reads this I would recommend to not pick up your chickens by their feet unless you are getting ready to slaughter them. Sorry but I feel bad for the chicken.

I agree with you there. I just never liked it. I am sure your girl will be fine after a bit. Seems so easy for a bird to hurt a leg, tear a tendon, or have a joint compromised.

I am getting excited for some big brown eggs or at least brown eggs anyway. I have 4 New Hampshires and a speckled Sussex that are turning 5 months old Sunday. They were sitting in the nests today so hopefully they are getting ready. I also have a gold laced Sebright that is 5 months old already. I would think that they should all be getting ready. I have a buff orpington and a barred rock both 5 months that I just got and haven't seen an egg yet and supposedly they were laying. Maybe they're having a hard time adjusting. I have brown leghorns that have caused them nothing but grief. I've only had them 3 days. The newbies that is. So I am really getting excited.

I have 16 weeks and 4 day old chickens and can now wait for them to start laying eggs!!!
