I’m really not sure what this little girl could be. I got her from Cackle hatchery. They have Rhode Island Reds, Production Red, and Red Sex Link. It is unlikely it is any other Red chicken they sell. I know it can be hard to identify between them but maybe there is something one of you all can see that separates them from others. I am attaching a few pictures from when she was younger too. The one in the box they came in isn’t that great of one…

Thank you! Looking at the pictures I wasn’t sure. I didn’t see much difference in the pictures and my research has told me it’s hard to tell.

I’m not an expert, but here’s my RIR. They def look similar, but I know nothing about how to tell the difference between all the reds. I’ll add some from when she was younger, too, for comparison.
Red, my pullet, ~15 weeks:

Red and Phoenix the RIR cockerel in back, both ~9 weeks:

Red behind Phoenix, ~6 weeks old: (and Spunky Rooster the silkie behind them lol)

They do look similar. I’m seeing the black on the tail feathers and around her neck area. Which I thought would help distinguish what she was but looking at pictures around the internet, it could be any of them. I know my husband is happy she is red at least but he was hoping for an RIR because that is what his grandparents raised as a kid and he swears that she looks just like them. I really just want to be able to tell him one way or another. I guess if anything I can wait until she is older and see where it brings me.

Btw your chickens are very pretty!

Thank you 💕
They seem to look similar through all the different stages as well. Again, no expert, but if production reds were discontinued, and with the darker coloration being more indicative of RIR, I’d say it’s more likely to be a RIR! The sex links, and even the NH reds seem to all be lighter shades, more orangey than auburn if that makes sense, with more variation and even some bits of white mixed in.

That is kinda what I am seeing too. I was almost positive that it was a NH red until I started looking closer and I wasn’t convinced anymore. I thought too that the Sex Links were too light of a color as babies. You can’t really see it in the picture of them in the box but she was a dark red. And the white feather spots started showing up and I was totally confused. But for the most part you can’t see any more white.
