I'm so happy with my baby bunnies today. I had them in the kitchen for a couple of hours this morning with their litter box in the corner they had chosen to use and they didn't make a single mess on the floor... not one pee pee accident, not one pill on the floor, EVERYTHING was done in the litter box!!
Is this normal? I've had rabbits before but they always lived in hutches outside so I've never had litter box trained rabbits and don't really know what to expect from them.
Was there already some urnine and manure in the litter box? Rabbits are VERY clean animals and like to keep there living area clean as well. If there was mess in the litter box they would smell it and get the Idea that that is were everybody goes. Thats also why is very common to have rabbits that go only in one spot of there cage, which also means its easier to litter train rabbits.
I pulled their litter box out of their cage and put it in a corner in the kitchen where they had previously urinated. Hope they continue to use it when they're out!
I loove bunnies, but the ones I got were adults that came from outdoor hutches from a large farm and so were never really very social with me. Also they peed and pooped all over the place whenever I got them out of their hutches in the house, were impossible to catch, and bit people
So it will be awhile before I get more, especially since my (indoor) dog considers anything smaller than him prey
Anyway, yours are just beautiful! I would love to have some Angoras and maybe use the fur to knit something with. And how cute would white Angoras be running around with the white Silkie chickens?? Cuteness Overload - in a good way!
Ulla's Eye Creeped you out? I LOVE red eyed rabbits!!!! Oh I really do! I don't know why and I have a little girl mini rex right now that is to die for! I just like the look and I think my favorite rabbits have always had red eyes. Oh and my Himis, color and red eyes
Too bad I have never found a REW Mini Lop that was a keeper. I have had 2 and for some reason, my theory is that the hair is longer/thinner because of the lack of color in hair itself, they just can't do worth a heck on the show table. The fur always gets them out first. So I stick with nice thick coated agoutis (ie Steel, Chestnuts, and Opals)
Oh rabbits are super crazy to litter train, even when it's not wanted. We have does that when we put their nest boxes in for babies, they use it as a litter pan too!
It kills me. I have to go out everyday and clean, before and after birthing, to make sure they haven't pooped and peed all over the babies!
My two are in the kitchen right now. I was just in there sitting on the floor and they're so cute they way they'll hop over to investigate my legs, nibble on my shoes, etc. and then high tail it back under the table like something is coming to get them.
