Any remedys to stop egg eating?????

I had this problem with my whole new flock...a fellow local BYCer had me up my protien to my gals...others had said oyster shell for calcium but that failed...protien solved the problem in 2 days...I now feed a mix of layer, sunflower seeds(BOSS),frozen thawed veggie mix and a small amount of good quality kitten chow...my eggs are AWESOME!!

From what I've read, they don't like mustard -- or dish soap. Sometimes lots of golf balls or other fake eggs will stop them. I've also read of putting them on a concrete floor for several days without any litter -- evidently the egg rolls away and they give up. They do not have receptors for hot foods (capsaicin) so I'm not sure why hot sauce worked for someone. A rollaway nest box is a good solution if they'll use it. More protein and more frequent collecting are good suggestions, too. It's easy to effectively reduce their protein level too much without meaning to, by giving lots of treats like fruit and veggie scraps. The old fashioned solution is chicken soup.

Good luck!
