So eight for eight here!! Had two that I had to help out this morning. They were pipped yesterday and got knocked around by the other chicks and had some pieces of the shell knocked off. I left them alone, because that's what I'm supposed to do, right??
I bumped up the humidity and misted the eggs during the night, but came down this morning to no progress. The membranes that were showing were white and thick and the chicks were constantly pecking in the same spot, so...against my best judgement, I opened the bator and started to pull away some of the membrane, which was STUCK to the chick....so, I helped peel the membrane and the top of the egg off the babies and put them back in the bator and watched. After a couple minutes of resting, they both pushed themselves out of the rest of the shell.
I'll try to post pics later today...letting the last two babes fluff up!! Excited that we did so well with shipped eggs...and my first time incubating eggs (in my adult life anyways!)
Here are pics of some of the standard brown red cochin babies...all fluffed!! The two that are least fluffed are the ones I helped out this morning!!
These are obviously still a project bird, so it's interesting to me to see the different colors that pop up...also interesting to see what they will become!! I spoke to the woman I bought the eggs from today and she said the lighter ones are usually roos...so looks like 2-3 out of 8...not too bad...almost perfect in fact!!
