Hi there! First time hatching chicks, bought a mixed dozen of fertilised eggs for our broody hen. We’ve heard it might be possible to sex our chicks based on their wing feathers... can anyone suggest if this 5 day old chick is male or female? Bonus points if you have an idea of breed (details of possible parentage in last photo; understand it’s probably too early to work this out)!!
Thanks 🐥🐣🐥

Feather sexing works for certain breeds, but not all. Are yours mixed breeds?

also, feather sexing is fine within the first 24 hours or so after hatch. At 5 days, they are not able to be feather sexed accurately.

cute chicks!

Thanks for your feedback 😊. We’re flying blind at the moment, but it’s been nice for our hen. We understand your advice about accuracy. Do you have any general impressions, or would it be just pointless speculation?
