I feed the layer to my hens.
i know quail need 24-28 protein as chicks so not sure how i can do that but as adults looks like 18-20 is good. and the grower is 18 so i dont think i need to add much more? I know i will have to grind all the food since its whole. But much easier to buy all the same feed. And i havent found any soy free feed that has high protein for quail unless i order it online.

also on a different question. some of my hens are still laying soft eggs, one has been doing it for a year but she had a bad prolapse and surprised she made it but the other one had no issues. They get oyster shell. wondering if i can purchase more calcium? my birds are a year to three years old.

Wheat, Peas, Camelina Meal, Sun Dried Alfalfa, Fish Meal, Crab or Lobster Meal as well as all the needed vitamins, minerals and digestion enzymes. These are complete rations. And chickens love it!

One of my hens kept laying soft shelled or shell-less eggs. I was offering oyster shell but I didn't even see that one pecking at it (the others were). I keep my quails in my living room so I wondered if they weren't getting enough vitamin D(from sunlight), I know they need that to absorb the calcium. So I started adding some vitamin packets to their water and the next day I saw my girl going to town on the oyster shell, and haven't had a weird egg from her since! She was a new layer, so it could have been just that she needed time to develop more, but I think maybe she was deficient and getting the right nutrients helped her feel better and maybe crave the calcium more.

I'm sorry, I thought we were clear that this feed is not suitable for quail. Can you find a turkey/pheasant starter? The article referenced above will tell you what you are looking for in your feed.
just seeing if i could add any thing to make it work, but i found payback turkey starter, it has soy and corn but it has the correct nutrients at least and its not purina. still trying to find a soy free feed.

my birds are outside but i guess adding some vit wont hurt.i am currently milking excess milk from a couple ff does. So i am adding it to the poultry feed since i usually soak in water.
