Any tips for less waste when feeding mash ?

Any tips, tricks, hacks you guys have for helping cut spillage and waste when feeding my fermented feed/mash? My picky flock loves to scratch it all on the ground and then won’t eat it .... ugh..... but I can’t seem to think of a way to feed this type of feed with no waste!

When I see excess spillage I just don't feed any more until they've cleaned it up.

Without knowing more about your setup, I'd suggest you elevate the dish you're using; if they can put their feet in it, they will put their feet in it... Using a dish with at least a 1" lip would also help prevent scratching. Maybe up the water content just a bit.

x2 on getting more details/photos about your feeder(s), mash and what's in it.

I serve my bowls of fermented feed or mash on top of bricks but my flock sometimes tips over a bowl and it doesn't seem to make any difference, they pick up all the spilled bits off the ground and eat them regardless. I serve my ferment and wet feed very thick so it clumps together and makes it easier to pick up even if spilled.

If they can't scratch it out with their feet then they will try to flick it out of the bowl with their beak. It is one of the most aggravating things about chickens of all ages. I use a piece of 1"x2" welded wire to make a cover for the bowl. They can eat through it but can't flick food out very well.

It sounds like you need a different container to put it in, I used a mineral feeder. I put key hole slots in it, so I can put it on and take it off easy. Mount it back height of the chickens.

You can't use a regular feeder for fermented. That's what the OP is asking about.
