ANY TREKKIES OUT THERE????

I saw it yesterday and thought it was a pretty good movie. I thought they did a pretty good job casting the crew and capturing the essence of them as young cadets. I don't think they did a very good job with Chekhov though - whose hair goes from sandy blond and curly to dark brown and straight??

The story line was just so-so IMHO, lots of holes and things that don't really make sense. Thought the writers could have done a better job tying up all those hanging details and inconsistencies.

I agree about Chekov... he never seemed that smart in the original series either... but if we had never known the first Chekov, that new kid would be a pretty darn good one.

I dismissed the inconsistencies with the reasoning that the writer was doing his own personal take, "if I could make ANY Star Trek story I wanted...." but I think it would have beena more emotionally fulfilling experience for myself if they had tied it in better and followed the lines of all the previous series/movies. Still gets an A+ from me tho, even the stepson who hates Trek said it was good.

Which would mean it is VERY consistent with all the other star trek movies!

Actually it isnt that uncommon.
I have pics of my dad and my half brother when they were in their teens. They both had blond hair with BIG curls. My dad, when he passed was a brunette and had no bounce to his hair at all. when my brother was murdered 3 years ago his hair was darker and straight as a pin.

I agree... If I could turn off my analytical system's analyst brain for these things I'd enjoy some of these movies more. But.... I'm still wondering for example on how Nero's ship managed to go through a massive black hole in the beginning without being crushed to a infinitesimal speck, but was consumed in the end by "red matter" (whatever that is). Guess I just don't understand my physics well enough

That's interesting, I've never seen that. Wonder if it works in reverse?

Still the kid that they cast for this role seemed lankier and taller than the original Chekhov to me. I think it's a real curious choice, and I wonder why they did it.... couldn't they find someone in Hollywood who was a better match? I'm thinking maybe someone pulled some strings here with a director or someone. I'm not criticizing his performance, only that he didn't seem to be good "fit" for the part to me... so I wonder how/why he got the role.

I noticed the eye thing too. My family thinks I'm nuts, but I am a long time fan. I watched the original show before it was reruns. (I guess that really dates me). I loved the movie and have already seen it twice. If I could find somebody else that wanted to see it, I would go again. I love to sit in the front row right in the center!

*ANOTHER SPOILER ALERT*

I wondered why Nero waited 25 years. If he really wanted to destroy the federation, he could have gone to Romulus and given his people superior weaponry for the time and conquered the federation. He could also have warned them of the impending danger to their planet and given them plenty of time to prepare. Why wait 25 years for your revenge?

Wish you lived closer because I want to see it and DH won't go. But I'd really love to have someone to talk to about it when it's over (or am I weird that way?).

I was thinking that he had to wait 25 years on the other side of the black hole that magically didnt crush his ship because time passed at a different rate while Spock's ship was coming thru behind him... I noticed Kirk's eyes too, and McCoy's. Nurse Chapel didnt make an appearance!
