I think the term "horse lover" doesn't quite go far enough. Horse-obsessed comes close...but still doesn't really encompass the full extent of the problem. My husband agrees - it's more than an obsession - it's my life. My mom can never figure out where I came from (none of my family members are big fans of animals.
Anyway, here are my beloved horses - past and present:
My horse-of-a-lifetime - my Morgan J.L.'s Leding Act 1 (aka Pogo - for his bone jarring trot). Classic Pleasure riding & driving (Reserve World Champion as a 4 year old)...and the worlds BEST equitation horse ever!
But that's not why I loved him so much - it was for his good heart, cheerful attitude, can-do attitude, and he was the most people-centered horse I ever had. He was an absolute joy - and I miss him every day.
I also had a really nice Saddlbred (Bourbon's Lucky Streak) gelding. He was a GREAT ride, but he was a stark-raving-lunatic. I sold him to a younger competitor at our barn ho had no fear. Here he is showing in Country Pleasure (my attempt to bring him down-to-earth).
Now I have a wonderfu Norwegian Fjord gelding, Siggy, who is my primary riding/driving horse. There are no words to express how much I love this silly horse! He never has a bad day & is always happy with life. He has a great work ethic and is one of the best beginner lesson horses I have ever known - he loves kids and has the patience of Job.
...and because I'm addicted to American Saddlebreds, this is "Who's That Guy" (aka Stanley) that we got last May...he's turned out to be a real gem. He's 15-18 years old, and seems to have come from Amish brok (broke but not really well trained)....
I would rather clean stalls in 90F heat than sit at my desk-job in the Air Conditioning. I would rather groom my horse than clean my house. I would rather clean tack than clean my fridge. I would rather fall asleep listening to the contented sounds of happy horses than stay at a 5 star hotel.
....and all of this is just the begining!
